So last night I'm coming home and downshift to second as a take a corner. I hear a high pitch screech coming from the driver's side. Only appears to happen in second gear. Research suggests throw out/release bearing is probably fried. Makes sense as my F54S has had periods of rough shifting, but figured it was due to temp. So between the sound and periodic poor shifts it tracks that the release bearing is toast.
So further research suggests that simply getting the fork/release arm and release bearing is not doable-all evidence suggest that I need to get a full clutch kit, which is fine with me. $400
and since I'm in there I'm wondering if it makes sense to replace the Dual Mass Flywheel. Unsure if issue with bearing and rough shifts may have damaged the DMFW, so again, as long as I'm in there thinking about doing it all. Also thinking of installing a Quaife diff.

Anyway, my question is does anyone have suggestions for clutch kit and DM flywheel. FCP only appears to carry BMW OEM which brings the cost between Clutch refresh and flywheel a little under $2K. The flywheel is $1600!
But I also see that Cooper's have some additional options from Luk and Sachs. I did do an Internet search but it's hard to tell if any of the kits for a Cooper S with the B46 would work? So wondering if anyone knows of any robust non-BMW options.
appreciate the insight and help

Do you have a S ALL4 or S ?

Most of the time the rattle is that throw out bearing and if you are in their and have it all apart you just do the clutch and clutch fork.

Due to the cost of Genuine MINI parts most people do aftermarket or just convert to a single mass conversion do to the missive savings.

Thank you. I have the front drive S. Afaik All4 wasn't available in '16. At least in the US.
And I'd rather stick with the DMFW to limit shock to Drivetrain and retain smoothness.

Welcome,

https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2016-...etrain/Clutch/

Yea those are the options. Luk is OEM and valeo or Sachs is the match. The Factory clutch kit comes with fork/throwout and is a non dampened disc with that dual mass. MINI sell the guide tube with the clucth fork combo on its own. I would just check that guide tube when you do the clutch to match sure its not notched or damaged and the throw-out slides smooth on it. You will see most clutch kits include that guide tube and fork. I would replace it with that throw out bearing.

On the aftermarket front stage 1 is ok, yes you will feel a diffidence but is not as abrupt as 2 stage 2+ which is for people who want to save $$$ while doing mods and tune piggybacks.

Hope that helps.
