2017 CPO Clubman Service History

Hello everyone, First post, just joined the community and learning a lot. I really want to get a 6-speed Manual AWD vehicle and the wife loves the MINI Clubman with the rear barn doors so we've come to an agreement that the MINI Clubman All4 6-speed manual is the perfect car for both of us.
We went to a MINI dealer in Denver tonight and drove a 2017 CPO Clubman All4 6-spd, the only manual within 500 miles of us.
Was really fun to drive and now I'm hooked, The one we drove is a 2017 CPO, but interestingly enough there are 0 as in absolutely No Service records for the first 42K miles showing on the CarFax and the dealer shows no other records at all of service at other dealers, the original owner bought in Louisville, KY and then it was in MI and then in CO.
The salesperson assured me that to be a CPO MINI it has to have oil change records, recorded in the memory, of at least 1 oil change per year. He said the oil change reminder reset is how they can tell.
I just want to confirm with the MINI community this is legit and can be confident in buying this one ? I definitely plan to extend the CPO warranty beyond the one year.

It does not have the backup camera option either which I would want to add also and is a whole other discussion which I have been researching.
Thanks in Advance, it is a beautiful color combo. I was there until they closed tonight looking around and no car sales in CO on Sunday so thinking of calling first thing on Monday to put a deposit on this one, what do you think ?

I also noticed the service record is a hit or miss while I was looking for my clubman.
I have looked at the CPO one, and the service record was not complete, while other used car might have a complete record....

I picked up mine early Dec 2019 based on the best body and lowest mileage....
2017 Clubman All4 6 Speed non CPO
22K mileage
$19500 here is the greater Boston area
The car is in pretty good shape, plus I do have 1 yr of factory warranty left.
No Nav, no parking assist, no back up camera. Other than that, it is pretty much all I'm asking for....
I realize lease return usually doesn't have great options.

I had a 2017 in Melting Silver over Burgundy--pretty color. Great car, though some find the 3 cylinder a bit under powered compared to the S -- I had an S All4, fully loaded and loved the car.

The MINI CPO protocol can be found here:
https://www.miniusa.com/content/dam/..._Checklist.pdf

It includes dates all required services were performed, which means, for the car to be CPO, a MINI technician needs to certify that the services were done, and the dates, etc.

You want to know condition of tires and brakes and to confirm that brake fluid flush was done as scheduled.

The dealer needs to provide you with the info. Their saying that it can't be CPO if... whatever, is not sufficient. You want to know what was done and when. If the services were performed at any MINI dealer, that info can be obtained.

Best of luck -- get a good deal on a great car.

Hard to tell from the photo but it looks like there's a bit of body damage to the left rear??? If so, that's not okay for CPO.

You may want to hit the dealership up for some new tires. Those look to be the factory treads. I know when I picked up my Clubman used with around 40K miles, the tires were almost shot. Luckily my old car that was totaled used the same 225/45/17s that the Clubman has. I had a set of winters and a new set of all seasons in my basement. So, I didn't have to worry about the bald tires that came on it.

By the way, if your curious, I picked up my Clubman about a month ago in NJ and paid $16,500 w/o tax title and fees. It had a solid Carfax and history. So, you may have some negotiating room, but usually dealers don't budge on CPOs.

Curious if you plan on getting an Extended Warranty after the Factory expires and where is good source to buy a Factory Extended Warranty from ?

Thanks, I will dig deeper, the saleperson pulled up this blank form on his screen when we were talking after the test drive but of course nothing was filled in, just the blank form showing what makes it Certified

From reading many car forums I definitely will get a Pre-Purchase Inspection from an independent MINI Specialist even on a CPO car, just in case an accident wasn't reported to CarFax.

What brand of tires are those, they look nice, kind of like a Blizzak winter tread ?

I definitely want to get a spare for the read cargo compartment - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Njg5...ature=youtu.be or a rooftop box to carry a spare
Today I found this one about an hour away from me at another MINI dealer, 2019 CPO with only 10K miles and is also a 6-speed, going to go see it sometime this week, possibly Friday or definitely Saturday. Has been listed for one month, probably because of the Manual trans.

So, the dealer purchases a CPO extended warranty from MINI, and this cost, plus a bit more, is passed on to the buyer. The selling price of the car, CPO included, should be negotiated based on current market conditions. Grid hard.

My $42,000 original MSRP 2017 Clubman S All 4, fully loaded with 20,000 miles after 3 years was worth $16,000 ~ $18,000 at wholesale auction last October when I turned it in at lease end. So an as new 2017, fully loaded, should be priced very aggressively as it's already February of 2020 and prices are soft.

Your MINI dealer can tell you who did the CPO certification and you should be given the opportunity to discuss the inspection results with the technician who did the inspection.

You want to make sure any service campaigns and software updates have been completed, as well as all scheduled services have been performed on time.

Extended Service Contracts are, at best, a mixed bag. There is room to negotiate price. The MINI products have some advantages in terms of less hassle if you get any work done at a MINI dealer and have the added advantage of giving you a direct link to MINI if/when the inevitable coverage dispute occurs. There are some third party contracts that offer more and longer coverage and have big mark ups so there is often more negotiation room on price, but the third party products have lots of consumer complaints; they're notorious for wriggling out of paying claims.

But the thing to remember is that these are NOT extensions of the original fully factory warranty and contain exclusions and conditions, and some of the conditions in the fine print limit or eliminate coverage. For every person who says, "my engine blew and thank goodness I had the extended coverage because it saved me $5,000," there are ten people who never get a dime of benefit and are out the money.

Some suggest it's wiser to take the money that would be spent on an ESC and put it in the bank as an emergency repair fund. If you need it, it's there -- if you don't then you have the cash.

The question always is, what price peace of mind? For some peace of mind about not getting blindsided by a big repair bill is worth the high cost of the better Extended Service Contract products.

What we do know for certain is the underwriters and salespeople make a lot of money on these, meaning what they pay in claims is way less than what they collect in premiums.
