P0127 OBD code?

Just had the car serviced at dealer a couple weeks ago and had a CEL cleared (allegedly a software update was required). All ran perfectly for a while.
Then yesterday, started the car up in 10F weather (brrrr!!) after it sat in an open air parking lot at the airport for 3 days. It ran a bit "throaty" and threw a CEL. Borrowed a friend's OBD-II reader and it's saying P0127 "intake temperature too hot".
My best guess is this was an anomaly from the car being out in the extreme cold? Probably caused the air temp sensor to malfunction. I can't imagine the air intake would actually get too hot in such conditions?
Anyone else had this issue? I just cleared the code and hopefully it won't come back. Key question is whether this is a serious issue and ignoring it could lead to other problems?

Not due to the car being out in the cold.

Possible causes:

Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness is open or shorted
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical circuit poor connection

Either there is a separate intake air temperature sensor and it is bad -- though a loose connector has to be considered -- or the MAF is bad (often the MAF also serves to provide the intake air temperature and this assumes this is the case with your car) -- though a loose connector has to be considered.
