Removing scratches
 

I need some assistance. I'm wondering if you folks know of any methods to remove scratches from the gloss black panel next to the windows of the Clubman? I have no clue how these scratches got there but I'm wondering if there are things I could use to remove them? Is that gloss black paneling plastic or glass? Any tips would help greatly.

You need a polisher with some correcting compound , check out esoteric car care

I believe all those various spanner panels are molded in black plastic, not sure if the color is through the material or not, so be careful not to cut too deeply to remove the scratches. For most minor scratches/scuffs on paint and plastic, I use Meguiar's #9 swirl remover and just hand apply/polish. I know some friends that prefer the 3M scratch remover, but I think they are very comparable to each other. Here are links to both:

I've used in the past a polisher and a sprayable polish from the guys at Optimum, specifically the Optimum Hyper Polish. BTW works great, but be careful with the polisher (machine) use a gentle pad and go easy, about a minute at the time.

Thanks for posting this. It has to be the best comprehensible instructions I have ever heard. Black JCW just bought, 21 months old and seemingly has gone through the car wash one too many times!!! Swirls galore and will probably take days [have carport] to eliminate them but very doable.

Edit: The series are very long but as I am finishing watching the second episode I truly recommend them.

Congrats on the new car! Looks great! Larry has great videos and covers the spectrum of detailing. His products are expensive, but AMMO Hydrate is a great drying aid (especially since drying is where a lot of scratches and swirls originate).

The nice aspect is the fact that you can write Larry and he will reply. An aspect lost these days within the present society I must say!

Those videos have already saved me a lot of money as, how he said it, I was ready to throw away my golf clubs and get new ones, while it was me and not the product. I have only done one door so far, taped, clay, correcting cream with buffer, wax... and so happy that ALL swirls are gone. Not too much liquid, not too little, not too big of an area at the time, not too long with the buffer and on and on. One has to feel the paint and establish a relationship with it, and no, I am not nuts!!! I have been the same all my Life as a Chef feeling the food versus working with a stopwatch!

And by the way, while at the MINI Dealer yesterday having the "sport exhaust" fitted, I noticed a black MINI in the showroom with "orange peel" all around the car!!! I didn't say anything but looked at it from all angles. What a shame and wonder if a new owner will notice that? It was only obvious when the light shined on it through the showroom window. I personally could never buy that car! Even at a discounted price...

You might want to start simple and just throw a coat of wax on them. I waxed my car this past weekend and noticed some slight scratches on the black bits by the windows and they vanished with a coat of wax.

Use a leaf blower if you want a scratch free way to dry your car.
