Need More Sound! F54 JCW
So I sold a R56 JCW with tons of pops and bangs and am now driving an F54 JCW and its way too quiet. I don't want obnoxious but I did expect more from a JCW - even in sport its pretty tame. What have people done to an existing JCW exhaust on a Clubman to improve the sound? I love the idea of the Pro exhaust but its so damn expensive - $2k+. About twice what I'd want to pay if I can help it.
Would love to hear/see what people have actually done. Thanks! BTW - tried looking through the threads but saw very few examples of JCW F54s with exhaust mods explained in the post. |
I have a "S" with a Supersprint exhaust and 2nd cat delete. Also have a R56 JCW with down pipe and resonator delete. The Clubman is quieter inside, most likely because better sound deadening and being longer so exhaust exits farther back but noticable outside. Search my name, Peter Novack, on YouTube and you should find 2 videos. 1 inside 1 outside. If you like sound will be selling in a month or so.

Hey. First post here. Don't have the JCW, but I have a '17 S All4. Just recently got a Remus cat back..and...Wow.... It did cost me $2k plus around $600 to install it, but I love it. In green mode with the valve closed, it sounds just like any other stock Clubman, just slightly more aggressive. In sport mode with the valve open...you better keep an eye out for the cops. :lol: I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but I figured I'd put my 2 cents in. I do love the exhaust... worth the money in my opinion.

I was hoping that since the car already has a slightly uograded exhaust that there might be something i could do to tweak it just enough. just dropped 30k on the car a few weeks ago so trying not to have to spend to much if i could help it. Maybe in the spring... |

Just do a catless downpipe, that should get some extra noise and a little more response for not a lot of money.

Just watch with the catless stuff in certain areas as you will have to pass certain checks. I know more areas are adopting regulations.

I don't know if the ECU tune I had put on my R58 (JCW) is available for the F series JCW cars or not but it only cost me $500 and it makes my car pop like a bad boy when I let off the gas at about 4k RPM. The guy who did it never even told me about that either. I like it. Plus the car is way faster accelerating. FWIW

Check out the Remus F54 exhaust as it is much lighter than the JCW is has more options on flap position to run it how you like.

Custom stainless 2 1/2-3" kept stock down pipe (legal!) and resonator, dynoflow race bullet with 4" tips. Roars on acceleration, pops and bangs in sport mode down shifting. Clubman S ALL4 8 speed automatic; can barely hear on highway in high gears under 2000RPM. $800

My custom setup up got torn up when I was run off the road. I didn't want to deal with another custom system or with electronic valves, so I bought a NM/Neuspeed system specific to our Mini. It didn't fit properly and was missing a bend. I tried working with Neuspeed but they kept blaming my installers. I eventually reported them to the BBB, and they just blamed it on incompetence on or part and stopped responding all together. My shop had to cut a section out and weld in a custom bent piece as well a relocate a hanger. Overall it doesn't sound bad but not great. I cant recommend it though because it doesn't fit without major modifications.

Purchased 21 Clubman S (manual) figuring I could make the performance enhancements myself as the JCW was no longer offered with a manual trans. Is really quiet and is sluggish at first. Have purchased a new cold air intake system.
So I need help! - would an improved intercooler help with performance and engine sound? -is there any exhaust that works with my car? (I know the Remus axle back post LCI one does but per Lohan slight to little performance gain and/or engine sound. None of the other Remus ones I had hoped to fit will work with my model) Ideas? -someone suggested just changing muffler, but I am completely uncertain as to whether that would help performacne at all.......opinions? Appreciate any and all help. KC |

Very cool that you went straight into modifying your awesome Clubman! I did the same to our Clubman, albeit it is a 2017 model. An Eventuri CAI went on straight away and I had a tuning shop here in the Netherlands build me a SS Catback exhaust system, unfortunately, the installation was not done correctly. After installing a Stage 1 tune and a Wagner Intercooler at another shop, the tuner told me that my Catback system was choking the turbo on full throttle. So I contacted a specialist SS muffler shop, and they rebuild my system, and the turbo is very happy now! Thanks so much. I had budgeted 10k for upgrades as that was about the increase in cost between S & JCW and hoped that it would be enough. Since I am driving on twisty curving roads for fun and hope to get back into some mountains so need to handle high altitude, I don't need or want straight line speed increase, but it definitely needs help from start or at low speed increasing quickly. The lack of engine sound bugs me most likely because I am used to associating the sound with performance (cant imagine me in an electric). Wish they had the equivalent of g s ski racing for cars here in the states. I have seen driving a course set up to make up take a lot of tight turns it in the UK for recreational drivers and it looks like a blast.
To get the most out of it, I will lower it for sure. I was trying to do things one at a time so I could gauge the results better. I changed the wheels and tires right away and boy what a difference that made! Which is encouraging me to keep moving forward, I just don't want to waste the money I have and try to make sure I am spending the money where it will have the biggest impact. Intake/exhaust seemed like the next area to make changes. I suffer a bit from analysis paralysis (I tend to over research everything, which should help me from making mistakes, but unfortunately isn't always the case). KC |

I have been reading the forum comments excessively trying to figure out what works for others in hopes of making the best use of my dollar which is what led me to believe that looking at intake and exhaust should be next step. Can't believe how clean your undercarriage is. In the past everytime my car was put up, I would gasp at how absolutely filthy it was. I lived where we long, hard, cold winters until recently and that makes a difference I am sure. (I can't believe it but I just purchased a special cleaner for the engine/undercarriage/wheel arch because I want to keep it looking good now that I won't be running through muck, snow, sand and salt.)

Too funny, he is one of my favorite YouTubers (and has cost me $$ everytime he doesn't something new to his clubman)......except for the mudflaps, I too hated those!
I have been trying to find my unicorn car (2015 Roadster) for quite a while and in large part he is the reason I even looked at them as I was sure I was going to get an AUDI TT to replace the one I had to sell when I had a brain tumor. (LOVED that car). Decided if I could ever find either with low mileage, manual trans, JCW for Mini, etc would get one......Yesterday I found one, so maybe this time I can get a deal to go through....which would mean I need to scale back my modifications on the Clubman until I can sell more stuff on Ebay (there is going to be nothing left for children/relatives to inherit, unless they like cars!) Pete has been super nice about answering my questions and he is just so much fun to watch because the absolute joy he shows when driving is so much fun to watch. |
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.. I have a 2023 JCW Clubman all 4, and I purchased the Carbon Fiber Exhaust Tips thinking they would fit. Sadly there is a little tip on the tailpipe. My question is if I get the tips modded to allow the notch will the OEM tips fit on my JCW?
