Spare Tire Fitment
 

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a handful times, but I can't seem to find a specific answer. Therefore, will just a compact spare tire (meaning no tray) fit underneath the floor in my F54 that did not come through with the spare tire option without modifying the area?

Thanks for the links, however, unless I'm missing something nowhere does it definitely say that a spare will fit under the back floor of an F54 without modifications? Also, when I spoke with Detroit Motoring they said that it won't fit, but I'm not sure if their assessment is correct.

I vaguely remember that someone, I think Gearhead60, posted about how he did it and I think a little fitting was required. Sorry I don't remember where he talked about it, which is why I suggest you PM him directly to get the exact scoop. Best of luck -- I'm glad I have a spare, though I hope to never need it.

I assume that your Clubman came from the factory with the spare tire option?

I did order the spare with my original build -- it was really inexpensive.

As Gearhead's thread shows, he did a little cutting to get a snug fit.

My factory spare sits sort of in the middle of the well and leaves only a bit of room on each side for a very few small bits. Haven't had it out of the car, but I believe it came with a complete change kit -- jack and all the rest. I suppose I should actually take it all out to see what I actually have.... But it doesn't rattle and the deck closes as it should.

So, it sounds like a spare will not fit under floor without some modifications.

I think the only modification is trimming some edges of the trim piece by the rear bumper, but I too have a factory supplied spare, so I can say for sure. As noted above, PM or post in Gearhead60's thread. I don't see why you can't get one to fit in there.

It fits in the lower compartment - in my case placed off toward the left side. It's quite a snug fit and take a gentle push to get it in there, but it doesn't rattle or move about.

Yes, there's a complete change kit in the styrofoam insert, including a neat little fold-out chock to aid in preventing the vehicle from rolling while on the jack. Although there's not a lot of surrounding space left available around the tire, it's perfect for stashing a mini-pump, small bag of tools, and whatnot, all rattle-free and flush under the deck, as you mention.

Sure! I took the lid off the little styrofoam insert so you could see the goodies box with the jack, wrench and wheel chock. Still plenty of room for a few other odds and ends under the deck lid. The spare fits just under the edge of the rearward trim piece, but it doesn't require cutting.

This thread was very helpful, I just got my Clubman last week and the first thing I wanted to do is add the Spare, thought I'd share my work

The only thing I did differently is used the mounting bolt to hold it in. I ordered the whole kit from DetroitTuned, spare, lug wrench, jack.and cover.

First step was to measure where the threaded hole is in the floor and then measure this on the carpeted floor and drill the hole

Then I could line up the center of the spare with the hole and see where I needed to trim, probably trimmed a little too much, but this part doesn't show at all once it's back in

I really like the Detroit Tuned F54 Clubman Jack, it has the head that fits right into the jack notch on the chassis, feels very secure.

Mine came with the 19" wheels and not many All-Season options for it, as you can see in the pic the previous owner put the crazy expensive Bridgestone Protenza S001 RunFlats on it, I may keep these for a while, but eventually will get the non runflat Michelin Pilot A/S 3+

While I was in the Mini modding mode, I also added a Bracketeer Fire Extinguisher bracket, the seat rails on the MINI are perfect for this bracket, won't work on my other car

Don’t mean to resurrect this thread, but I’m looking to put a spare in. The space behind the liner that needs to be cut looks so minimal and the liner doesn’t look super rigid. Might be a little ignorant, but I have an inflator in my car so can I not just let a little air out of the tire and jam it in? If I ever need it, I can fully inflate it?

That would depend on the size of the spare you are using. Aftermarket vendors offer spares with the proper bolt pattern but with differing overall tire diameters. One vendor has been selling a spare for the F54 that is only about 24" in dia. This tire will drop into your well without any modifications other than strapping it down. The 'official' size as provided by MINI will require some trim work on the rear trim piece of the well. Best advice is to visit a dealer, see if they have an F54 in stock with a factory spare, and take measurements. The carcass of the temp spare is rather stiff so just trying to partially deflate it probably will not work to your satisfaction. And the last caveat is that the temp spare can only be fitted to a rear tire location! If you have a front flat you have to mount the temp on the same side rear tire and the remove the flat front tire and replace it with the just removed rear tire! Refer to you owner's manual for correct verbiage but you get the idea. Yes, it defies logic but it is a MINI after all.

Thanks. My dealer says they don’t offer an oem part. Odd, but it’s Canada. I’ll cut if I have to, figuring the diameter can’t change more than a couple of millimeters or it’s a safety issue even if the bolt configuration and center bore are the same. The rear tire thing is what it is. Another mini quirk I guess but it’s a family hauler. As the saying goes, better safe than an an angry wife and screaming toddler for hours on the side of the road. I have roadside assistance so won’t be me fixing the flat but you do need a tire to go on there.

I just finished installing the spare tire. Did the full Genuine MINI setup. I already had the MINI trailer hitch, so it was nice to have the spot for the tow ball in the foam tray.

I bought a 125/70-17 FALKEN FK-090 from TireRack and had it shipped to the local Firestone store (a TireRack recommend installer). I went in to install it on my new Genuine MINI rim and Firestone said their machines don’t go that small and they suggested I take it to the local Harley dealer. I ended up installing it myself at home with a few motorcycle tire levers I already had. Surprisingly, I got the bead to seat with just my Lezyne bicycle floor pump 👍🏻

As others have said, you probably don’t NEED that forward bracket. And if you don’t install the bracket you also don't need to trim the carpet piece at the very rear of the trunk. I was able to slide the tire rearward and wedge it under there and still get the center hold down bolt to line up.

My wife is concerned that she doesn’t have a spare. We have a 2017 ALL4 F54. Is there a difference between the ALL4 vs. FWD models when it comes to getting a spare rim/tire?

My wife the same. You should get a pump and slime for the car, with AAA or Mini roadside assistance. I can’t imagine she’ll jack the car on the side of the road to change the tire and roadside likely has a spare with them. Run flats are prone to issues, blowouts, they aren’t a free pass to a garage. You get about 50 miles range and the tire is done after.

Yea. Don’t think she would do the tire change either, but she does have AAA and my thinking was she could at least have AAA replace the bad tire with the spare. It’ll at least give her “peace of mind” knowing she has an option.
We have only have this 2017 F54 since Christmas, so we are still in a learning curve here. Wondering too how available these tires are if you need a replacement.
