Double DIN in R56, or new OEM Boost head unit?

I have a 2010 base model R56 coupe that came with the MINI Boost/CD head unit -- no navigation, no bluetooth, no HK amp. I have installed the Integral Audio Soundstage kit (but not the sub woofer), which has been working and sounding great since 2011.

Now my MINI Boost head unit has failed -- no lights and no sound.

I was satisfied with the previous setup, but it would cost more to buy a new OEM Boost head unit than it would cost to buy and install a modern double DIN head unit. I am looking at the Alpine iLX-W670-M or the Alpine iLX-W770-M, which I would have installed by a local car stereo company. Including the cost of installation, it would still cost less for one of the Alpine DIN units than what my dealer is quoting for just the OEM Boost head unit, alone. And it would be nice to get Air Play / navigation, as well. (presently using a Garmin mounted on dash.)

Has anyone replaced their Boost head unit with either of these two Apline units, and if so, do you have any regrets or recommendations?

Looking to improve my audio, I've tried better speakers and stuff but thr problem is my output source.
my 13' r58 has non hk amp underneath the drivers seat and unfortunately the hk is not plug and play..
is there anyway to run the hk amp with my setup or am i going to have to remove the stock non hk amp and run an aftermarket one ??
imo the standard hk setup is hard to beat so I'm testing to get equally as nice or better sound quality.
I also have the GPS screen option , every aftermarket like android screen/head unit ALL say they don't work with the GPS/screen optioned cars.. is that true?? I swear it can't be
also , are these the speakers outputs from the amp ? I'm wondering for when and if I have to run an aftermarket amp.
