Questions on a MINI

Alright, so I found a 07 MINI Cooper S that I am considering buying. It was imported to the states from the UK and I was wondering if there was anything I should check?

Also, are there any differences between the 07 Cooper S UK vs US versionS?

It was converted to a LHD(so I was told)... That was my only complaint, lol. The seller said it was a import, which the history report verifies.

"converted" to LHD - I'd not just stay away, I'd run away. Why would anyone conceivably do that ? Unless its significantly cheaper than the hundreds of other used 07 Cooper S's on the market why take the risk ?

This deal sounds fishy.

This sounds to me like someone doesn't know what they are talking about.
Every MINI in this country has been imported from the UK.
It's just that some are made for the U.S. market and others are not. Since MINIs are becoming mainstream cars, I doubt rather seriously that a "non-U.S." car would be imported to the U.S., the hassle to do so would be tremendous due to all of the U.S. regulations on cars.

If he is serious about it beaing a import, converted, that makes it gray-market. No warrenty, no deaer support, may not meet emmisions unless a specialist type of place did the conversion etc. I would run!!!
Then again, I would bet $100 that the guy is a BS artist...like helix said, get the carfax with vin, it will tell you lots. Then get a mini dealer to do a pre-purchase inspection. I personaly think this car has a history...stolen, floodloss, etc. The vin is in multiple locations...find them...make sure they are all normal looking and match. Even then it could be a "clone"...a stolen car with a good cars vin.
