I'm Back

I'm Back!!
Sorry I haven't been active on NAM the past few months, but I've been really busy and having a blast living life!!
Anyway, the reason I'm posting is I went back up the mountain I took Daflake too and shot a new pic of Ornery. She got a little makeover!! A chrome hood scoop and a stripe removal.
I got my orders back to the states :mad:. No more Europe for me in April. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...m/P1010268.JPG

Glad to see you back !

I miss the stripes but like the scoop.

So, where's Uncle Sam sending you next ??

Donna/Mike Jan 6, 2008 11:45 AM

I am heading (for once) right down the road from home. McGuire AFB NJ or as the Army calls it Fort Dix. I might even get to stop by the Dragon this year.
I am going to miss Europe... but I was going to Korea, I'll take Jersey.
I have "Jake Stripes" to put on when the weather gets warmer so she's not going to be naked for long.

CR&PW&JB Jan 6, 2008 12:16 PM

I've been through McGuire, never got stationed there though. It's a little on the remote side for a stateside tour but there are definitely worse places to get stationed ! Good luck with that assignment and thanks for serving !

Been by there a fw times myself. I grow up in Carlisle PA and worked in Jersey a few times. I'm looking forward to being close to my family for once. Maybe I'll actually find a Mini club around there thats active... crap load of Mini's in Aviano but no club. I was buggin' Daflake and those guys for awhile.

CR&PW&JB Jan 6, 2008 12:24 PM

Carlisle... cool. I grew up in Gettysburg.

You'll be able to drive home on weekends. Or go into Philly or NY to catch some ballgames. Not a bad situation for you, at all. But it certainly won't remind you of Aviano... I went there on TDY many times. Great assignment.

OrneryDSMini Jan 6, 2008 12:28 PM

True but driving back in the US isn't going to be as much fun as here.
Besides, I only have 5 years until I can retire.

CR&PW&JB Jan 6, 2008 12:31 PM

Tell me about it... seven years in Germany.

Those next five years will go by in a flash, trust me. And when you retire from the AF, there will be lots of things you'll miss about it. So enjoy those five years... or 10 or 12, if you decide to stay longer.

OrneryDSMini Jan 6, 2008 12:36 PM

We'll see.

shokk Jan 6, 2008 04:43 PM

Let me know when you're back in NJ!

abuzavi Jan 6, 2008 07:58 PM

I should be headed down to IT in late March / early April. Kids have two weeks off of school, so I was thinking of a week in the Alps and a week in Italy with some friends. More to follow, I suppose.

Not sure what the wife will say about two weeks in the Mini, esp. if it starts in March in the Alps....

I need to ship Ornery off in the beginning of March to have her waiting on me.

Be glad you're not shipping a car from Europe to the Pacific. When I was reassigned from Ramstein in Germany to Guam, it took my car 11 weeks to arrive.

I think the estimate Transportation gave you on your shipment is pessimistic. When I shipped another car from Germany to New Orleans, it only took 2 weeks.

OrneryDSMini Jan 7, 2008 09:39 AM

I'm not shipping it thru Trans car. I blew my military shipment on my divorce. Which, in a good karma note, the SOB she left me for dumped her:nod::lol::grin:!
I'm shipping Ornery out thru BMW about a month before I leave here, that way I can have her there while I'm on leave in between assignments.

CR&PW&JB Jan 7, 2008 09:51 AM

Wait a minute. You're active duty on military orders. Why is the Transportation Squadron at Aviano not arranging and paying for your car to be shipped ? Has something changed in the 6 years since I retired ?? :impatient

OrneryDSMini Jan 7, 2008 10:11 AM

Yes, you're only allowed 1 car shipment to and from an overseas assignment. I blew my return ticket on getting "her" :mad:car back to the states. Not that big of a deal, it's only going to cost me $200 to have BMW ship it.

CR&PW&JB Jan 7, 2008 10:28 AM

Ahhhhh... I gotchya now. Yep, that'll do it.

Hey, maybe you can convince her to pay half since she used up your allocation. Yeah, RIGHT !

OrneryDSMini Jan 7, 2008 10:51 AM

LMAO!! If it wasn't for my son, I wouldn't talk to that woman again... like I said before karma is fun.

Carlisle? Really? I grew up in Carlisle as well. I was right on the boarder so I went to Boiling Springs High School....

To this day, I am still ashamed that our mascot was a bubble. I'm sure that I'm not the only one mentally scarred by growing up as a Boiling Spring Bubbler....

Side note; I noticed that there is a Carlisle Mini Club.

Class of 96. I lived off of south spring garden street; close to 81.

I haven't been back there in at least 7 years; I'm sure a lot has changed. My mom just told me that Dickinson College is now under Penn State...

When did you graduate? When was your last time there?

OrneryDSMini Jan 9, 2008 09:06 PM

'92. I was just home in August.

Welcome back to Europe! It was great meeting you at Deal's Gap this past summer (I was w/the Miata guys from CR.net) and look forward to doing some 'Ring laps w/you!
