Yet another pulley install...

Please DO NOT tell me that this'll be any near Heidleberg because I'm SO down for this. Now, I'm to the point of buying the dern Alta pulley and having it mock me from the shelf until it gets installed!! As for payment, brother, you name it. Bier, right? Or was that good ole Jim Beam? As good as it sounds, I'm not ready for the extra 8 HP, yup more than the abuzavi's HP upgrade, for the PB Alta 2.0 upgrade and would like, if not professional, then at least competent guidance during the install!!

Poppa Bear, have you got your pulley yet? Abuzavi and I are probably getting together this weekend to put on his USS if it gets here in time. If not it will be next weekend. Henry has the tools and we can provide the expert guidance required. As long as I don't touch the jack, that is!

Nope, this was in Graf....

This one went south fast...

We started the install last night about 7 pm. It was to be a pulley (M7), CAI (Alta) and MTH. Getting the pulley off was no problem, but that was where the ease ended. The M7 Pulley was difficult to put on as the sleeve would not slide on. We ended up trying to tap it on and finally got it. As we were putting it all back, the CAI was being a little difficult and we were losing daylight. We finally got it all back together and tried to start the car only to find that we had forgotten to plug the throttle body connector back on so the car was running rough. It was dark and we could barely see. We got that plugged back on and the engine was still running rough. I decided to try the MTH flash to see if that would solve it and the upload failed. By midnight I was at a loss. We had to bail until the morning.

Morning comes and we managed to get the MTH flash completed but the car is still running like crap. So, we pulled it all again and started over. One thing I did notice is that the pulley was rubbing a little so we loosened it a bit and carefully put it all back together. I also reseated all of the plug wires as well. Guess what? She fired right up!

So, another pulley done but certainly not my best swap time.

Well at least you didn't drop the car or break off the grounding point or anything major like that! :grin:

I felt like it after all the problems it was giving me. :mad::no::sad:

But I am glad that we got it sorted. :lol::thumbsup:

I have a BFH (Big Friggin Hammer) and I ain't afriad to use it! :eek::thumbsup::lol:

It was cool to get it running right as there is nothing like the sound of a happy MINI. It was just running really rough before. I think that one of the plug wires was not making good connection as we did remove the coil pack to get a bit more tilt room out of the engine.

Hey, PB -- we are on for this weekend, if you want to come down.

I've got some parts to install (USS, OCC, BFD, etc) and have the bay reserved for Saturday morning -- they open at 0930.

As always, I owe some big props to Brad / Scööby at www.customminishop.com for his heroic efforts in mailing parts via USPS to us APO guys. Bräd, you rule.

This brings up a very good question....

How are those MINI's running? Are you happy with the mods that we did? I know the grin factor was up but as I don't see you guys daily I am jsut curious.

FYI, if you guys decide to do another pulley, I found that if you remove the coil pack you can get the engine a bit higher so that you have more room. If you do this watch as there are little rubber gromits on the top and bottom of the bolts that can be easily lost. Also, to get the plug off of it, you have to slide a the little red locking clip over and then squeeze the plug and pull.

Daflake, it has been a few months now since we put the pulleys on and I still smile everytime I drive my MINI. :grin: I think that pretty much covers it!

One thing I did notice is that the M7 sleeve for the SC shaft was VERY tight fitting. In fact, we had to break out the hammer to get it on. Are they all like that? There was no scoring on the shaft are we removed the pulley, it was just really tight fitting.

I thought about breaking out the KY to get the dang thing on. (laugh now, but that is what we used to seat tailrotor bearings on the Kiowa).

Oh yeah, we need to talk STOCK OPTIONS! :lol::wink::thumbsup:

daflake, seriously, if we're ever working on a car, and you whip out a bucket of KY, I'm dropping the tools and walking away....

A bucket of KY. that's a lot. If you know someone with a bucket of that stuff I hope they own a farm or something.

LOL, I was thinking of a tube... But what you do on your on time and have in your inventory is YOUR business! :razz:

KY works well because is lubes for the fitting then dries clean (alcohol based and that doesn't mean you can eat it.).

We used to stock the stuff in the POL shed when I was in the Army. That stuff would leave as quickly as we could get it in. It got so bad that we started to hide it. Dang GIs!

OK, now I am miffed.... I spent a good portion of my day helping this moron install these mods and what does he want to do now? SELL IT!

Anybody want a modded late model 2006 MCS? Only 3K miles on it.
