reverse beeper
 

i was wondering if anybody put in a beeper thing like big rigs and trucks have. they beep when the vehicle goes into reverse.. the wiring seems pretty simple and i'm sure you could find it on the internet, but i was just wondering if any one has done it already

Mini Cooper put mine in. Its a pdc. Standard on Cabrios.

when searching for one i found that there is also one standard on the prius i think. people disabled them because they are annoying and only go off in the cabin. i did find a wolo one for only 20 bucks. i think i'll be getting in a couple weeks.

some guy down the street in my community put one on his corolla.

honestly, it embarrasses me when i hear him backing out of his
driveway. if it was a bigger family boat like a SUV or a minivan, i can
understand for the sake of their children.

A back up beeper and PDC are two very different things. A backup beeper simply beeps when a vehicle is in reverse. PDC or back up sensors are intended to alert a driver when something is behind their vehicle when in reverse. A back up beeper can be found on the internet for $15-$20 and simply wires into a back up light circuit. PDC is more complicated. Its an option on MINI coupes and standard on the convertibles. I'm pretty sure that the sensor in the Prius is similar to PDC and is not simply a back up beeper.

I agree with Kenchen, it would be pretty silly and embarrassing to put a beeper like that in a Mini, but if it makes you happy, go for it.

yes it would make me happy. the fact that no one would expect it and would be forced to look at my sweet car makes it worthwhile. the same goes for airhorns. there are some obnoxiously loud ones for no reason other than getting attention. i'm still young, i can still be stupid. i think

What year is your MINI? If it is '04 or earlier (backup light in the middle of the bumper), there are bulbs available in 1156 size that have a beeper integrated into the base: http://www.autobarn.net/des20100.html. If you have an 05/06 model, you'll need to find a separate beeper module.

Actually, the beep in the Prius is only in the cabin and it is so the drivier knows the vehicle is in reverse. The Prius has a weird transmission selector that springs back to a default location after selecting forward or reverse. On would have to look at the digital display way up by where the windshield meets the top of the dash to see if you were in reverse. With the beep, there is no guesswork and you can look at the road.

Interesting. I guess that makes sense. I probably could have used something like that the first few times I drove my Mini until I got use to the shift pattern. It's second nature now, but with reverse next to first, I had a couple of surprising starts at first.
