I installed one of these a few weeks ago, MUCH nicer than the stock set up and they are a breeze to install...great mod for the money.

This mod rocks. Ian is a god. It's worth every penny. I actually ordered this circuit several weeks before the car arrived.

(I am not mechanically inclined but did the "blind" install on my 05 MCS, and it wasn't the worst thing I'd ever done... took me longer than I'd care to admit, but it was not stressful, and the results are awesome.)

being a mechanic, i can say this with authority... ian obviously has no idea how to write proper auto accessory installation instructions... because his were thorough, had lots of good color illustrations, were very easy to follow and actually made sense. it took me 10 minutes with a 20 torx to do the "blind" install and the circuit works perfectly. thanks ian!

Agreed- no master mechanic here and I was able to do it in about 10-15 minutes. It is a great mod and one that I use several times a day- it was worth every penny.

Ian is definitely on my diety list. He even included a few extra toggles so I could fill out my friend's rack when I installed it. I brought mine with me when I went to pick up my car.

it shouldn't be standard because the non-auto up is a safety feature.

one circuit not mentioned much is mikeythemini's. it's not auto up, but it makes it so you can close the windows with the remote. seems pretty cool, but needs the factory alarm to work.

Not that I'm aware of....as an aside, the Audi A3 has auto up....you'd think MINI would add it for the US market....

The interesting thing is that current US BMW sedans have auto up on all windows. Even the back windows of the 4 door.
Why is that, if it is a safety concern?
Why not the MINI????????

00 New beetle

My wife's 2000 VW New Beetle came with auto-up. Do they all have it as standard? I can't remember if the previous VW Jetta's we had came with it or not....

My '03 Audi A6 has auto up on all 4 windows. My family's collection of various MBs all have auto ups. Not sure what safety issue there is. Obviously it has been resolved satisfactory on other makes/models.

I believe it is due to the lack of an obstruction sensor on the MINI while the more expensive brands include them.

Does this work with the convenience opening on the remote? In other words, can you close the glass with the remote?

So this thread is why I returned from MINIsOnTop and had to pack 10 circuits! Generally I don't ship that many in a week these days ...

The only limit switch for the window closing on the MINI is a (high) current sense when the window reaches the frame and stalls - the power generated is much too high to be considered "pinch protection" ... I don't believe it would be enough to break bones, but I don't fancy putting my arm in there and testing it.

Perhaps the '07 redesign will have a more sensitive window, with pinch protection - only if that occurs will auto-up be available from the factory, in USA.

PS:
Thanks to all for your kind comments

Auto Fog

Hi Ian,
I have your Auto-up, Track DSC and Auto Front Fog piggyback circuit and love it!

I have since installed the rear fog light. Do you have any plans to make a circuit that allows me to toggle auto on rear fog lamp?

Having the ability to enable the rear fog light to come on with the headlights, or disable auto-on for full manual control...would be great!

No ... if you ever drive behind a car, MINI or other, with rear fogs on, you will realize they are much too bright to be left on. Generally front fogs are the same, but the MINIs are mounted very low and well angled to minimize dazzle to approaching cars.

Wow! Under 20 mins to install on my '05 MCS!

Ian, I received my circuit in the mail tonight, and opened it immediately. Within 20 minutes, including reviewing the great illustrated instructions, I was test-driving my car, and grinning ear-to-ear!

Fellow Motorists...
For about $50US, this is an unbeatable deal! Auto-up power windows and DSC defaults to "off" when you start up. An unbelievably simple install on the '05's, especially if you don't have huge mitts, or can deal with a little squeezing/scraping of knuckles.

Now I just have to re-train myself not to disable DSC manually when I start up!

Thanks, Ian, you're doing a great service to the MINI community!

I concur. Ironic that this thread appeared; I bought my circuit last year and finally got off my a$$ and installed it two weekends ago. It's AWESOME!
