Fitting Wedge Based LED In BA15s Socket (Brake Lights)

So my next project will be to get LEDs to fit and work properly in the tailights of our second gen MINIs. I currently own a R55s LCI so that is what I am going off of.

To start off with, we need to look at 3 designations for the brake lights. They are p21w bulbs so they are compatible with 7506 type bulbs and most 1156 type bulbs, again keep in mind these use the ba15s type base. There are almost no makers of 7506/p21w CANBUS LED bulbs (to prevent bulb out error) in Red for the brake lights...that are reliable.

My idea is to use a Ba15s to T10/T15 wedge converter for the socket base then I have alot of options for CANBUS t10/t15 LEDs in Red.

Will post an update when I get to installing, like to hear your thoughts/concerns!

I have an R55 LCI, and my brake light bulbs are 1156.... I bought some cheap LEDs off Amazon, and then coded the bulb check with the Carly app. Works great.

I would think a t10 bulb will not be nearly bright enough for a brake light.

Could you pm me about that app you use? My car is a light show everytime i start it up

I have some CANBUS T10s in red that around 300 lumens which is much brighter than stock...however I have my eyes heavily on the "Alla 921 LED Strobing" for some sexy red strobing euro look tail lights. They are t15 though so a little work to get em to fit.

Measured from socket to edge of inside of housing for the top brake light, was almost exactly on 2 inches, i'd say 2.1 to be exact. Means I don't have a ton of clearance for a socket adapter and bulb but still do-able.

This is the app:

With he bulb checks coded off, you don’t have to look for only canbus bulbs, you can select any that will fit. And, you won’t have to use any adapters.

Installed the T15 Bulbs with the adaptor, look bright but the bulb sits a little forward of the reflector housing so not all the light is hitting the reflector portion, still the brightest bulb i could find that would fit.

Love the deep red, much more accurate than the cheesy pinkish orangish light from the white stock bulbs
