Headlight bulb replacement Questions

I know there are a ton of threads out there about headlights so I apologize for starting a new one. I have an '06 R52 with stock Xenon HIDs. I noticed the driver side is noticeably dimmer than the passenger side. I also noticed that the driver side ballast has only 3 wires going to it (one is just hanging) and the passenger side has 4 wires. Don't know if that is the problem or not. I want to replace the bulbs anyway. Which type do I get? Also, I want to replace the halogen high beams with LEDs but I can't figure out how to get the darn things out. I've removed the dust cover and the connector. Now what? Any help is appreciated.

Can’t help with the hids, but the high beams are locked in place with a spring. Just push in on the end of the spring and move it towards the outside. On my f56 there is a small window built into the headlight housing so I can see the spring.

Here is a pic of the high beam. I can’t figure out how to get the bulb out. I see the fastener but how is it removed?
