Hella 500 Lights Wiring

Hey everyone, I'm new to NAM so hopefully this hasn't been discussed already on here.
I have a 2004 R53 and I am looking to hook up some Hella 500 driving lights to the front grill. My goal here is to wire it so that they turn on with the OEM fog light toggle switch (I already took out the fog lights to use the holes as brake cooling ducts.)
I notice outmotoring has a kit, would this kit be worth it with the fuse and relay and everything. Or with the route I am going, would just the lights and some wire be enough for the job.

I already posted this but realised this is probably a better place... so round 2.

The Hella 500 lights have 55W bulbs. The OEM fog light wiring has only a smallish relay as the lamps are quite low in wattage. I suggest you use the power for the OEM fog light to drive a add-in relay. The standard automotive 30A relay should work fine. You will need to use adequate wiring AWG that carry the lamp current. Don't forget to fuse the wiring properly.

I dont think they are low wattage at all.

OE fog lights were 55W H11 I believe....so just hook em up to those unused harnesses. Done.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had no idea the OE fog lights are 55W as the housing is not that big. It uses H7 bulb which is 55W. I agree then just hook them up using existing stuff.

Sounds like you have a plan, my concern would be ...
1. if using the stock wiring, is the circuit rated for the power draw the Hellas will pull?
2. because they are Driving Lights, are there state laws restricting how they are employed? (must be turned on/off by high/low beam switch vs fog light toggle)
3. have you looked at the standard driving light install kit available? I think this would be a better/safer install then using the current fog light circuit. Plus if should come with the hardware needed to mount the lights on the grill)

No matter what you decide best of luck.

Motor On!

Thanks for all the replies guys. Sounds like It should be ok to run through the existing wires. I might not get to this for a while as the car is torn apart in my garage for several repairs. But when I do, I will try my best to update/post pics of how everything went.

thanks for your reply. I will definitey check out the stock ones, I just prefer the larger light look from the Hellas. I posted this twice by accident and my other post we found there should be no isses since the stock fog lights use the same wattage bulb. Also not too concernd about the laws as I will mainly be installing because I love the way they look and only using them on my late night back road drives when it's pitch black and very few cars.
