Blank pushbuttons used for auxiliary features

I've read on here that the blank black pushbuttons on the center console and between Sport/DSC OFF that these are reserved for Euro features not available in North America.

I want to use them for some auxiliary features. The one on the console next to the Rear Defog (by the driver's knee) would be perfect for a momentary switch to activate my garage door opener. Anyone do something like this? I figure I could find some kind of momentary switch that could be wired to the guts of a handheld remote for my door opener, and I could cut down the length of the blank cover enough to activate the switch.

I want to do the same for the middle button between Sport and DSC OFF to add a different feature with , but I've read there might be a circuit board there.

What advice would anyone suggest on making these buttons operational?

I too have been looking for a switch that will fit in the blank spot... No luck so far - need to find someone parting out an R56.

I want to wire it in as an on/off switch for my H20/Meth for when I run low on Meth (using stock washer bottle so I get a dash notice when running low).

Get the switch module, part#61313454175 and see if a button can be swapped into the middle blank position.
Here's a used one: https://www.ebay.com/p/MINI-OEM-07-1...70561?thm=3000
or brand new: https://www.outmotoring.com/switch-m...dtc-sport.html
Or you can purchase a switch module with all 3 buttons, but MINI USA doesn't carry it and you'd have to order it from a parts dealer in Europe.

The middle button is for auto start/stop, and it looks like it's on pin 5 of the connector:
