INPA & check engine light N16 engine.....

I am turning to the group for help. Well this may be lengthy so bear with me. I have a 2013 Mini cooper non s that I have been rebuilding and have a check engine light and Trifecta fault on the ABS. The ABS issue I think I have found and have the part ordered. The check engine light is constant and I have been trying to diagnose. After running some test in INPA I keep getting error codes DME/DDE 32D6 & EGS 5100/CF31. In addition when I try choose R56 (Shift F8) and then ENGINE, I do not see the N16 engine as a choice to choose from. So after much searching I have done the following and have it working. However I keep getting the German version and trying to get it to the English version. Here is what I have done.
Software I am running :

DIS v57 & TIS, SSS v32, INPA Ediabas 5.0.6, NCSExpert 4.0.1, Carsoft 6.1, NavCoder demo. (DIS and SSS are updated until 2010)
- 1 x interface K+D+CAN protocol

When I open INPA and go to the R56 engine menu my DME was not listed. The MED17 for the N14 engine was listed but not the MV1722 utilized on the N16 equipped vehicles so I added the following to the R56.ENG file under INPA/CFGDAT.

"ENTRY= MV1722,MEV17 for N16,"

The MV1722.ipo is in the SGDAT folder and the MV1722.prg file is located in the EDIABAS/ECU folder. So after the update the menu started working however it is in German

Trying to find ENTRY= MV1722,MEV17 for N16, in the [ROOT_R56_MOTOR] list in the INPA/CFGDAT file used to direct the softwareto R56.ENG (i.e. the file that INPA.INI uses to point to models using the R56.ENG) ? I have added this to INPA

[ROOT_4]
DESCRIPTION= 4 Zylinder
ENTRY= MV1722,MEV17 for N16,
and I've modified R56.ENG as noted with

[ROOT_MOTOR]
DESCRIPTION=Engine
ENTRY= MV1722,MEV17 for N16,

I am trying find what is causing the check engine light to stay on constant. I do have ista-d and ista-p and ready to go that route since my vehicle is newer. It looks like INPA/DIS is for vehicles 2010 or older. Do to harddrive space I can have one or the other

Datens

Make sure you have the latest datens. In addition do a search in the forums if you need the files. Also there is another site called mhhauto.com that deal strictly with auto software. A lot of knowledge there. A lot of people have gone to ista p and ista d. That is how I went and got the Icom A2 hardware.

Hello dear ggrimm01!

Thank you for answer.

I have installed the latest daten files with bmw coding tool 2.50.
But still can't get it to work.

I will try to register on that site to. :nod:

// take care

Great write up, did you have any luck with getting the engine to appear and and enabled in INPA ?

ggrimm01 06-23-2015 09:25 AM

N16 engine

Yes I got it to work. However I could only get the german side to work. I think with a little more testing I could have got the english version going. While I was learning all this. I realized that This INPA version is for mini's older than what I have (2013). Since then I have upgraded to ista-p/ista-d with the ICOM A2 hardware.

I could never find the files in the datens (and they're current, but maybe not complete) that I have.. (The MV1722.ipo is in the SGDAT folder and the MV1722.prg file... )
Eventually I'll probably upgrade to ista-p/ista-d with the ICOM A2 hardware as well but I like the INPA tool and have had good luck with it using it.
Btw, thanks much for the fast response.
:)

Hi there !

anyone can share the N16 R56 engine files?:

MV1722.ipo
MV1722.prg

It is my engine (N16) but I can't see it in the INPA screen, just:

DDE for PSA EV4
MEV17 for N12
MED17 for N14

I can see the "mv1722.prg" file under "\EDIABAS\Ecu\" but there is not the "MV1722.ipo" under "\INPA\SGDAT".

Thank you in advance !!!

I could find it after a long research on internet and I could get INPA function working.
Thanks for asking.
If you need any files or software, and I can help you, here I am :thumbsup:

That is nice of you. Thanks....did you update the software of your DME?

Just the .ipo file on my laptop.

No DME updates on the car, just others in default mode (ie: when adding xenons, FRM was reset to default with the new VO).

I have not updated the datten files in +2 years but I still worked smoothly in the car with Rheingold, NCS, INPA, WinKFP and Tool32.
Installing new hardware (MFSW, Sport button, Replacing FRM, changing VINs) and changed general functional configurations (sound, lights, alerts, and more).

I'm happy at least until today :)

Apologies for digging up an old post - my installation of INPA is missing files MV1722.ipo and MV1722.prg, preventing read of diagnostic info directly from the DME of my 2010 N16 engine.

Are you or anyone else able to share those files?

I'm bumping a very old thread but adding the N18 listing (and the updated Datens) to my config, gives me a working engine option in INPA for my N18 Countryman.

Unfortunately, it's all in German. Doubt you're still posting on here but just in case, did you have any theories as to how to trigger English? Everything else in my INPA setup works in English.

Hi, I don't think I got anything useful out of it in the end. Though the engine option appeared, everything was in German and there were fewer options than on the N14 equivalent.
