Multifunction Steering Wheel Coding
SZL has an entry MFL nicht_aktiv Is this of any relevance to MFSW coding or do I just need to add option $249 to the VO in FRM and CAS?
|
It would be best to add the option code to the VO (both modules) and then default the car. Then the SZL will update the appropriate modules (I think it includes the DME and KOMBI), also if the dealer ever has to update the car it will stick.

Thanks, just changed the VO to add $249 in CAS and FRM. Can see the changes in the file fa.trc.
Changed the SZL MFL nicht_aktiv to aktiv and still no response to any buttons. Been doing a lot of searching and reading both here and in one of the bmw forums (bmwcoding.com) and can't seem to find the exact sequence in NCS Expert to default the car, I can see how to do one module but not the entire vehicle. Also are there implications in doing this such as losing trip mileage / mpg data (late 2007 UK vehicle that was last coded at a dealer in 2008 - I'm using v47 datens) Presume there were orignally some instructions in this thread but the pdf referred to is missing? https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...xpert-diy.html (wish I could get my formatting to stick, the forum seems to strip all my paragraph spaces!) |
To default the car you need to turn off trace file manipulation in the profile editor of NCS (password is repxet), then set the job for coding, then hit process car button.

Tried process car and it worked its way through a few modules
abg kombi cas frm and maybe another one then it threw an error code (comms?) forgot to record it. Battery volts are healthy at around 14.5v last I looked trip, mpg & time wiped, user settings in kombi for indicator flash and door locking reset to default. Still no functioning MFSW. Given up for now as its getting late |
Try to default the DME now. I would think ABS/DSC, KOMBI and DME should do it. Maybe EGS if you have an auto.
|
I can't see DME in the module list
Just 2RAD 4BMOT ABG CAS EPS IHKS KOMBI SPEG SZL FRM Car is manual R56 October 2007 UK spec |
4BMOT is the DME
|
Oh also default the SZL.
|
thanks strobeyprobey will try again in daylight and when I'm not tired

The list of modules I can see mentioned above is a list of modules I can read. Scanning for fitted modules indicates one more, not ABS, but DSC (which I know my car doesn't have)
I seem to recall this naming error been mentioned elsewhere and it despite the name it really is the ABS However I can't can't read from DSC as it throws an error (it's been like this from when I first read the default configs module by module) The error is: Error in CABD! Look at CABI.ERR and ERROR.LOG! COAPI-2020:no answer from ECU IFH-009:ECU not connected or doesn't answer CABI.ERR doesn;t exist and ERROR.LOG doesn't say any more than in the error box popup I think this was the same error I got when I tried to default the car. |
ABS/DSC are the same module, I believe. Make sure you are running the latest BMW Tools 2.11 or 2.12 as I had errors like that when running the old EDIDBAS version.
|
I'm using 2.11, I'll try a ground up install and see if it makes any difference.
