Heater controls & switches don't work
Yesterday afternoon, I was installing a Parrot bluetooth & had to remove the radio & all the front of the center part with the heater controls & window switches, etc. When I put it back together the only thing that worked was the fan. When I push the AC, rear defrost, or recirculate buttons, none of the lights go on. The dial for the different vents doesn't work (it only blows air out the dash vents). To top it off, the windows, fog lights, & door lock switches don't work either. I plugged all the connectors back in, unplugged them & plugged them in again. Still nothing works. By that time, I was out of light & I gave up for the night.
I used a wire loom for the bluetooth that just connected to the radio & to the bluetooth & the radio works fine. All the idiot lights work except the one that should have said pay a pro to install it idiot. Please help! |
If the harnesses are all plugged in properly then it sounds like you need to disconnect the battery for 30 Minutes or more to reset all the computers. Be sure to disconnect the NEGATIVE Battery Terminal. No need to worry about the positive.
Try this first if it does not correct you problem come back here and let us know. One question though. Did you disconnect the battery while working on the car? If not then make sure you do in the future when working on electrical items as it can cause some really strange things to happen if you dont |
Check your fuses!
|
Schatzy62, I will try that. It sounds logical. I didn't unhook the battery when I did it. I have a huge bruise on my behind, now, from kicking myself over this.
Strobeyprobey, interesting handle, btw, I just checked the window fuse & it was OK. I can lock & unlock with my remote so I don't think it's a fuse issue. |
The actual Lock and unlock & windows fuses will be unrelated to the HVAC system & control panel. You have probably lost power to that panel. Double check all of your connectors for broken pins or pins that have pushed out of the sockets.
Check fuse F18 as that supplies the control unit with power. |
Looks like the glove box light is also on that circuit, so if that doesn't light it is probably the fuse.
|
Glove compartment light works. I mentioned the lock & windows because they are on the same panel & those switches don't work either.
|
Disconnected the battery for a half hour, connected it back, but no change. Still nothing on theat panel works.
|
I had it apart again this evening, to get the bluetooth to work. I had the battery unhooked for a couple hours & it still doesn't work. To add insult to injury, I couldn't get the bluetooth to work either.

It really sounds like something got damaged. Either one of the connectors, the IHKS module, or your power supply. Run through every fuse, carefully inspect the circuit board for burnt traces, and really look closely at the connections. Time to get out the multimeter and the schematics (WDS) and start checking signals and voltages on the harnesses. You could also try a used IHKS module (there are usually a few on eBay).

It turns out it was the wire loom I bought to integrate the Bluetooth to the stereo. It was the last thing I pulled out & everything worked again.
Thanks Schatzy62 & Strobeyprobey for your efforts. |
Well at least you got it working again! Something in the wiring must have changed for the LCI and they haven't updated their wiring adapter. Kind of scary!
|
I think one of the plugs on the back of the IHKS didn't seat right. I had it apart again & it didn't work again until I reseated those plugs with the little flip latches. Not sure of anything other than it works. I'm having a Pro put in my Bluetooth.
