Help-replaced halogens w/OEM Xenons and they dont work

I got a set of complete OEM Bi Level Xenon Headlights. I took out my old halogens and put in the Xenons and plugged in the harness, which was the same plug on the Halogens. I turned them on and nothing. My turn signals worked but the headlights didnt. What else do I need to do or will they even work at all?

I searched all over Google and found a couple of threads talking about that. Some were saying the dealers were not willing to reprogram the light module for them.

Talked with my service advisor at Mini SF about this and his face contorted into all shapes of agony on how much of a nightmare this conversion is. He ultimately stated that they are ordered to NOT do these conversions (and reprograms) no matter how much the customer pleads. I think there have been extensive discussion on this forum as well as others on this very topic. Sorry I couldn't provide a more cheery outlook.

Yea I have searched all over and havent found one person who has been able to get it to work. Weird because everything plugs right in. I got the light from a salvage yard so I didnt pay much for them so not really a big loss. I can always Ebay them and still come out ahead.

Or talk to me and see what can be done I would love to try to make them work, more manually and bypassing the whole factory harness.

Is the HID ballast an integral part of the headlamp assembly now?

The ballasts actually bolt on underneath the headlight housings and a harness plugs into them while mounted which poewers the d1s bulb.

Thanks for the explanation - I couldn't tell from the OP's post whether he also got the ballasts to go with his new Xenon lamps. So it's just a single harness for both the ballast and the lamp?

Sounds like a J2534 pass-thru device, power supply and subscription to the BMW/MINI TIS server is needed.

With most new cars/trucks having 20 some computers on board - I am more worried about a computer breaking than any mechanical item. And conversions like Xenons or even simply replacing the battery with a different brand can be problematic I am reading.....

But the Xenons is something upfront my MA said they could not do at the dealer and be sure and factory order them. Best advise he gave us.....

I know how to retrofit them and anything else you might want in a r55/56/57! You have to change the vehicle order which is a set of nmbers in the programming that state what type options you have. You have to be careful though because not all options will work because they interfere with other options you have. Such as my process of putting MFSW on my car. If I do it with the parts I have and then retrofit Bi-Xenons it will cause the MFSW to no longer work properly.

The Xenon retrofit kit contains the list of parts in the attached JPG.

So you need the kit, part number 63120422185

Xenon headlight, left (white or yellow turn signal)
Xenon headlight, right

Bulb, xenon light with ballast unit (bulbs depend on build date, 63217162862 or 63217217509

Control unit, xenon light (again depends on build date, 63117182520 or 63127255724)

From the ETK it looks like some of the Xenon part numbers actually include the control unit as it specifically calls out requiring the control unit.

Not to forget the vertical aim control sensors assuming you have the wiring already in place to connect up to.

The wiring is different. To replace Halogens with bi-xenons, you have to take the headlight housing apart and rewire according to your wiring harness. it's kind of annoying but once done, it's awesome.

Actually been monitoring NAM for a few months now. I was able to buy a complete set of Xenon Headlights and was able to make it work. Its a little bit tricky but it can be done. You have to open your headlight and re-wire your headlights as if you have a standard halogen lights. You have to disable the motor of the projector as this should be connected to a leveling sensor. Once you have done that, now you have to do the relay with resistor retrofit so that you will not have a bulb out warning. Will try to take picture and post this.

If you do the full conversion with all of the factory parts and wiring all you need to do is modify your VO string with NCS and default the FRM module. The option you would want to add is $522

Once you do that, the leveling and and car will work just like it came from the factory.

If anyone wants to buy my OEM Silver Xenons let me know. I am thinking of swapping them for black Xenons.

I am pretty interested in this. So if I went to the parts guy and said, give me the headlight housings, and the ballasts and bulbs, then we could make them work by just adding $522 to the VO?

I don't really care about auto leveling and the washers, but if I have to add them to make it work, I'd be ok with that.

Any luck on getting this to work? I have been able to modify the VO to add rear fogs on a 2011 MCS and if it is possible to just add the housing/ballasts/bulbs and modify the VO that would be fantastic.
