Electrical Multi Function Steering Wheel

Scudder44, Datens files are used to upgrade module firmware, but are not needed for SZL resets.
OK do me a favour & use INPA to read your module list (usually under F2 - Identification once you've chosen your car model (or something from your car model family)).
One of the lines will be DSC, and then it will list a SGBD number. I'm looking at the one now for my BMW E90 & that DSC file is DSC_87. I can't remember what my Mini one was, and it's not near me at the moment.
Close INPA & open Toolset32 (sometimes shortened to Tool32). Once open, go to File > Load SGBD, Group File then navigate to the DSC file you found in stage 1.
If you have no files there, post up what DSC file you need, and I'll send it to you.
But, if it is there, you're in business! Open it, and it'll give you a menu. Depending on whether you have German or English INPA, you'll need 'Lenkwinkel Abgleichen' or something in English (Steering Angle Reset or similar).
Hope this helps.

The one very obvious thing to try first is to teach the car the extremes of the steering; so with the steering in the straight ahead position, start the car, and turn the wheel fully to the right, then fully to the left. Do this a few times so the car can learn the extremities of the steering & where straight ahead is.

I plugged INPA into my Countryman quickly tonight. You get your list of modules up by choosing your model family (R56) and then hitting Identification.
Unlike my BMW, I have a SZL module, with SGBD code of SZL_56.
Using Toolset32 (Ediabas) I was able to open the file SZL_56.PRG, which then gave me lots of options. Down the bottom of the list there's a couple called SZL Abgleichen. It seemed to be looking for some additional information, but at the end of the day I didn't hit it, mostly as I have no problems.
All the commands on mine are in German. Luckily I speak German so it's no big deal.
Looking forward to gearing how you get on. Maybe use INPA to read your errors too.

Error codes from INPA
Glad you got mileage sorted. That's bizarre though, and it doesn't sound like the programmes are installed correctly.
Using INPA only, can you connect it & read the error codes that are stored, usually you hit F4 once you've selected the car & it will tell you the errors.

DSC_56 error
am not even going to translate botschaft on my phone 😀

Botshaft literally means Embassy, but in this sense it's to do with Signals / Messages, usually related to 'non-matching VINs between modules'. Note the SZL doesn't have a VIN associated with it, but the FRM most certainly does. Did you use a set procedure for coding the car previously, i.e. adding $249 to the VO?
The first error on SZL_56 is saying the car doesn't know the zero point for the steering angle sensor - so that needs setting, which you know anyhow.
The FRM_70 reading is bizarre - it's saying the VIN is unknown. You wouldn't have had any reason to access that module though - apart from coding the VO.

Sorted, DSC programmed at BMW MINI dealer and codes cleared. Best 42 euros. Probably the cheapest ever work BMW has done :-) Charged me for 30 minutes.
Just for information, the SZL does indeed have a VIN associated with it, this has to be coded to match the car. The rest of the programming is done through the DSC module, the SZL has no direct code link.
The technician was impressed how far I got, doing coding, putting in the VIN, setting up VO for CAS and FRM. He declined my request to show me what he actually did though!
Now, to get the auto start/stop to remember the last setting.
Thanks for everything and sorry to hijack the post.

Retrofin MFSW on Mini Countryman R60 from 2010
Hi all,
I was trying to apply what was said on this forum and some other websites and still no luck. Here is my story in short:
I have a Mini Countryman R60 from 12.2010 that came originally with a simple two pins steering wheel, no cruise control nor audio buttons.
I purchased a 3 pins sport steering from a 2012 R60 with both cruise and audio buttons.
There is already a pinned connector close to the airbag port on the SZL where I plugged the new steering wheel.
I used NCS Expert to add the $249 VO, did FA write on the CAS, FRM and SZL. I was reading that adding $540 should also be done, but this FA is not recognized by my MINI.
In NCS Dummy the MFS on the SZL is aktiv.
The problem is that nothing is working for now, no audio nor cruise, however, while starting the car, I can see the cruise control icon on the tacho screen. The buttons on the steering wheel are also not illuminated while lights are on. Should be right?
What I did in theory is described in this tutorial: http://download1588.mediafire.com/md...18d+part+2.pdf
Any idea what I am missing, doing wrong?

Ok, I've figured it out. If INPA is setup right, the adjustment can be both read and set through the SZL module.
I've not figured out if I need a new SZL to support MFSW. The part number doesn't match the one on realOem, but I can't find any other information on it either way. I've got a broken unit (possibly my fault) cheap of eBay that I believe is listed as having MFSW.. but I'm not convinced by the whole thing. I've taken it apart and the pins for the switches go straight from front, through the ribbon cable and out the back without any electronics in between. Surely therefore all switch units are compatible if they have the connector?! There's nothing to be left out, it doesn't connect to the module electronically at all, it just goes straight through and presumably into the CAN bus.

At First sorry for my Bad english im from Germany.I've Changed at my R56 LCI 07/13 my 2 Steering Wheel to a 3 Steering Wheel with mufu and Cruise Control.I've added $249 to the VO / Fa and Reset the "Steuergeräte" but nothing Happens? The Volume Control and the Cruise Control doesnt Work? The Number of my SZL is, 6131 9253763 can anyone Help me? And maybe say what to do?best regards from Germany

@Schimanski You have definitely a wrong SZL. Your SZL part number matches my stock one (2 spoke non MFSW). I am in search of the correct part number because the one i see in realoem 61319253767 didn't worked for me. I am not sure if the reason behind this is that my new SZL end in 767-02. I don't know what this -02 means, since i see parts with -01,-02,-03 and -04. If i have an update i will let you know.
