Can we just use the LED license plate light bulb from 08+ BMW?

dhoosee 11-07-2008 08:39 PM

Bump..... Has anyone tried this yet?

I'm going to the dealer next week and will check it out with the parts guys...

dj_boxster84 11-12-2008 04:11 AM

I have the same faults. I bought some LED's PIAA in eBay for the parking lights and another for the license plate. Then, the trigger came out! The LED's I have in dome and interior parts don't affect, it's only the exterior I put after. Please, give an advice. Thanks!

Thank you for the links but they bought at http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/p681...duct_info.html

In there it says they have no problem with most BMW E46 and 335i but with others can make faults...so...it's a electrical problem. It can be solved also with some resistors. Anyone has done in here?

I replaced both the license plate bulbs, but I am having an issue on one side. The bulb keeps going out or flickering. I believe it's not being held in securely by the connectors, whereas the other side is. Anyone have any advice how to fix this? I have tried prying the connectors tight on the bulb, but it keeps coming loose and sliding around.

Did you get the in dash warning light?

Yeah, but that's not what I'm worries about. I just want the bulb to stay in tight. The one side comes loose.

hi, I just came across this thread at the e90 forum. At post #78, they've managed to get the part number of the oem LED license plate.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=63313&page=4

Does anyone know if this will work for R56 or willing to give it a try? Hopefully it's error free and perfect fit?

Part number is 63 26 7 193 293

It would only cost someone $10 to try. Might I recommend yourself for this endeavor? :)

Out of curiosity why would you want to light up your license plate more?

bakerjam 04-20-2009 06:36 AM

Did anyone resolve this?

AkFarina 04-27-2009 10:09 AM

Why do you want to know? Car mods, after all, are just personal preferences that encourage diversity and style, whether someone agrees or not.

i just like clean light that led's make. it's like when xenon came on the scene. now halogen just looks old and dirty. same goes for interior (plate lights too) traditional bulbs for me.

I wish i could get rid of the lights all together but i surely don't want to make the lights brighter.

But for those that want it brighter just remember the good old boys can now see it from much farther away.

And to each his/her own

fronjoni 04-28-2009 02:43 PM

exactly
i honestly dont know why anybody would want to attract any visual attention to themselves at night
the exhaust and turbo is more than enough attention for me

iwashmycar 04-28-2009 03:34 PM

i agree they look nice, but ill keep the ol yellowish ones... soon enough theyll be the 'in' thing again lol "look a rusted hood!...and are those incandecent bulbs!!!!??" lol j/k

Find the right resistance and you should have no problem. I don't want to splice wires and put resistors in. If you find out anything post up in this thread.

I have high intensity LED's for both front and rear for my car. Twice as bright as regular LED's.

mini creeper. i have a 2005 mc. what LED's should i use. i cant find any info on it.

im thinking of the dome light, the push reading lights, license plate lights and i think thats it

I have installed the E90 ones on my R53. They are a lot deeper than the standard ones so you do need to cut the back of the boot plinth. Also you need to wire them up so the boot button still opens the boot.

Took me, a total amateur all of about 3 hours to get it all done and they look awesome at night and very oem. I just siliconed them into place.

They were £17.85 for the pair from my local BMW garage. As you can see from this pic, even though they are deeper you can get them to fit flush although it is a very tight fit. No unsightly hanging low.

no flickering either as the resistor is built into the pcb and the leds are angled to illuminate evenly.

I am using these LED bulbs from PIAA:

http://www.shopatron.com/products/pr...PIA19492/353.0

They work perfectly so far (it's only been 2 days, but most of it has been at night, so lots of lights-on time) and they look sooooo good. Have not had any bulb warning lights come on the tach yet.

Wow $52 per bulb? So we are looking at $110 for a pair...that's super $$$
