Wireless Charger Mod
So it was bugging me that the wireless charger doesn’t fit larger cell phones. So for less than $20 and about 45 minutes of labor, I installed a Mini Wireless Charger Adapter Extender Phone Bracket. There’s a great video on YouTube that I followed and it works great. I can’t believe that Mini (and BMW) wouldn’t just update the charger themselves since so many people have larger phones and the part would cost them less than a dollar to make.
Here are some photos of the tools I used. You will need a torx screwdriver with T5 and T20 bits. I also used a trim remover and a couple of old gift card/hotel cards to unclip the charger. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...43fbfadcc.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...ea67e4ccc.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...003dfd7fe.jpeg Here’s the video link for anyone that wants to try it. It was too dark to take pictures of the final product but I’ll try to remember to post a photo/video tomorrow. #moremods |
I don't have an iPhone and wouldn't use the charger in that hot, confined space if my Android phone would fit. I'm sure I'm not the only Iconic owner wishing someone would sell an inexpensive liner that would replace the charger to provide a nicely finished and much larger storage space.

You can replace the unit with a different one that doesn't have a charger. Part number 51169292951.
I ended up going with a cup holder solution that I'm pretty happy with. |
You missed the word, "inexpensive" in my wish for a charger-delete solution.

Don’t disagree with the heat issue but the existing wireless charger was useless to me. Now I can charge if necessary rather than having an armrest that I never open.

You can just remove the wireless charger and felt line the inside. Cost < $5.

Having taken the armrest apart, the holes under the wireless charger aren't that big. I think adhesive felt sheets would be more than sufficient. I just bought 6 sheets from Amazon for $8 (for something else).
They are firm enough to block the holes and if you were really concerned you could duct tape the holes prior to covering with felt. Plus the felt would give you a nice surface to store things. |
