The Meat of the Matter/Planning for Success

I’ve enjoyed looking at the pictures of open engines & shiny pistons, reading about plans to swap pistons, and of course Don’s interjections about his superior heads . But I feel a little empty because there is no discussions about the meaty stuff, the “not-so-minutia” that is so critical to success; compression ratio (what method was used to calculate?), squish band area, and piston shape & relationships. I’m no expert in this area and that’s why I would like some banter on these topics. I miss “the old one” forums because those topics were so juicy. Here is some background on what I’m referring to http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/squishcalc1.html , and look at the last three paragraphs here http://www.hpt-sport.com/blowopen.htm . Manufacturing tolerances can vary widely so sometimes these parts don’t fit together neatly like Lincoln Logs.

Some of this information may be proprietary but enough could be revealed by the knowledgeable to help guide the rest of us dreamers.

thats why i like you keith, i sit here wondering about this stuff, and you actually ask people. your always good at stiring up a discusion. Take headers for example, weve had some lovely discusions about them, just imaging what we could figure out if we had all the critical dimensions for all the aftermarket headers in our laps all the good fun we could have crunching those numbers to find out which one is truely the best. Hope we can do that about heads right now (i would love more compression (not that 10.6 isnt high enough, but i would like to see more), but squish area is vitally important, a friend had custom pistons made for a racing bike so he could machine his own squish areas! The squish area alone could mean that the ECU could bring the advance back to a normal position instead of having it retarded so much even with high octane gas (at least the guys who pay the big money for 100 oactane claim their car is like an entirely differnt beast on that stuff). Of coures, we could always hope that someone will start making heads for the mini, with matched pistons. OOOOO the power we could make then. Maybe i should postpone my header and do that this summer, hahahah. Heres to a great technical based head discusion, in stead of the normal, my head is better than yours, but i can tell you why because its proprietory (bollocks, it would only cost your competition the price of ahead to find out exactly what you did to your head anyway, and 2000 to bypass what could be months of development is a small price to pay, so dont even start that stuff....). Lets hope someone steps up to the plate here and gives some real juicy numbers for the more technical inclined of us can mull over them to make a truely educated guess (no offense anyone) for both ourselves and the benefits of other, rather than just having to buy into your hype and hope for the best. Who wants my soap box next?
