Turbo, TwinCharge, M62 etc.

Ok, Im not mechanically inclined but I love my MCS. I would love to read the differences between the 3 "big three"....Turbo alone, TwinCharge and the M62 et al. ( numbers, etc.)

What application would be best for "X" driving situation, and what are the costs associated with each and reliability/drivability issues of each.

I have been reading threads on the "big three" for a long time and I'm sure others would like to read about this topic without diggin thru threads and trying to piece it all together alone.

Perhaps you have an opinion, let it be known.

Motor ON.

And no one knows anything about the M62 yet. So this thread might not go anywhere.

From all I've read on NAM, here's what I've gleaned:

M62 kit: great if you want to stay supercharged, (in theory). This kit does not yet exist. We have no idea how durable it will be in the long run, and we have no true idea what power gains this offers yet, nor the cost. But a lot of potential to be a really great mod...

Turbo only kit: Probably the highest possible potential for maximum horsepower. Consider what Fireball Tim has done in this arena. (See his 600 HP 10-second drag car). But doesn't seem reliable, especially when you start pushing over 300 HP...

Twincharge kit: seemingly the most tried-and-true method. Lots of kits out there, from Helix, Webb Motorsports, and Alta, to name a few. This method has been around for a while, and seems like the most reliable of the big three you mentioned...

Ok guys please don't comment on here about things that you have only "heard" about.

A properly setup turbo only kit will not only be reliable but can make the same number that a supercharged car can with a lot less stress on the internals.

And as far as a twincharge kit being tried and true... You will melt your supercharger at high boost levels and you will have trouble keeping the throttle body to supercharger pipe on.

As far as the strength of the motor goes with CP pistons, arp head studs and rod bolts... The motor is pretty much bulletproof. Then throw a head on the car and a intake manifold to quicken the spool and rev it to 8k+. Turbo is where it's at.

Ummm, is that your TC car that did that, or did you just hear about it?

The TurboKompressor has yet to let me down. Track days, mutiple autocross runs, you name it.

Well you are running much lower boost pressures than I was. And yes I know this from first hand experience. I'm sure the 19 or 20 psi you are running is fine. But when you push it to 28-30 psi you start having problems.

man i had a awd drive talon that i use to run 20 lbs on with T3/T4, then i upgraded to 60-1 and ran 30ish on...the diff between 20 and 30 is world of difference. I blew quite a few headgaskets so many times that i could change a timming belt in sleep on those cars. 20lbs really a safe zone on the cooper?

With ARP head studs and a stock head gasket (with CP Pistons of course) I have ran well over 30psi and not a had a problem with anything. Like I said the motor will take pretty much whatever you through at it.

But I have yet to push mine past 7k. So you might run into problems at that boost level at 8k+. Ask Hubbie how far they are pushing things. Absolutely sick.
