Crank Pulley Installation DYI

First thing, this would not be possible without the help from Khuevo. He is one great guy. Thanks Khuevo.

He volunteer to do the installation in my car, while I took pictures for this DYI.

Now to the DYI........ It is posted in this page (1), post #7. Please let me know if you have questions. This is the DYI that was missing in NAM.

I will try photobucket. Already have the pictures there now. I just have to put the links on the document and past it in a post. I hope to get it done tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion. If all goes up in flames, I will take your offer Catastrophe, thanks.

Hi mate,

Email it to me at kevin - at - mini-mods.com.au and I'll convert it to PDF to reduce file size, and host it forever for you.

Perhaps Khuevo can post the part numbers for them. They are from MINI (BMW). Please remember that when you use these tools, you do not need to heat the crank pulley to fit it into the crank. If Khuevo does not reply soon, perhaps a PM would be in order.

Lots of excitement around here, an apartment near my girl friend’s caught fire, fire hoses on my MINI, firemen on my MINI, we now are taking care of two giant cats suffering from smoke inhalation.

Crankshaft bolt 11-23-7-829-918, holder 90-88-0-118-460, extractor 90-88-0-118-450, as a substitute for the extractor a bolt grip puller can be used but I highly recommend the thread protector 90-88-118-270 and the installation tool 90-88-6-118-240. The Bentley Service Manual also has a step-by-step for the removal and installation of a crankshaft pulley. Be aware the holder and extractor part numbers are for use on early model vibration dampers only. Your favorite MINI parts department will be able to order the tools.

Hope your MINI didn't take too much of a beating! Charged fire hoses are quite heavy, and abrasive Not to mention firefighers ON your MINI... Ouch!

Hey guys I was able to remove the super charger pulley with the pulley removal tool no problem, and attempted to pull the crank pulley off with the same puller. Since the bolts that hold the puller on the crank are smaller, the lbs of force trying to remove the pulley, one of the bolts snapped on the puller. You would think it would break free, but no. I guess I need to get the crank pulley removal tool. Uuugghhh.
