Herbie - What do you have on the car so far (engine-wise, that is)? I put a K&N CAI and an Alta 15% SC redux pulley so far, and I hope to have a Milltek cat-back within the next two weeks. No GIAC so far, but I am considering it after the cat-back, so I'm really intereste to hear more about your results. Thanks.

Look at my mods below, with GIAC, no hesitation, rev limit at 7200rpm, boost at 15 psi, and I dyno'd 180 hp @6800 rpm w/ max torque at 167 fp. The GIAC really made the car run smoother. Get it

batrugger put me over the top as i was on fence on this still . i've got the 15% pulley ,pilo 9mm wires and coil, mania cai, alta full exhaust (the header made all the differance) madness oil cooler, and went to 16 inch wheels (konig holes) cheap and only 15 lbs. so with the falkens i dropped about 12lbs. of unsprung weight per corner. the car turns in very well now . but to explore it to it's fullest would require a racing school no doubt as i love the car and though i'm okay at finding a good line and such i'm no schuemacher . i'm rambling (back went out ,i'm on the oxy highway ).

Good luck and make sure and post the before and after results please.

BTW, my local shop that has a mustang dyno and GIAC programmer quoted me $325 for the GIAC and $90 for 3 dyno pulls. I like the way my car runs now, and paying $450 for a couple more horses didn't seem like the thing to do at the moment. However, its still on the back of my mind. I want to hear more testimonials from satisfied users with 15% and 17% pulley reductions.

It is not just about hp, I think it was shown that GIAC was only increasing hp 5-8, but the torque increase is much greater than other ecu remaps. The thing about it was the improvement in the way the car drove, smoother and peppier. If you search for GIAC here, you will get lot's of positive testimonials. You guys are getting some good prices, best I could find out here was $495 just for the flash. Skip the dyno runs and you have a great deal.

This is of interest - can you share where you got this info?

I read it here on NAM back when I was researching ecu reflashes. I searched here for over an hour to try and find it, but i am sorry that i can't find the particular thread it is buried in. I remember reading that GIAC improved hp but increased torque significantly over other ecu options. I went to a dyno day with about 20 other MINIs, stock, JCW, and MTH. I was the only one with GIAC and I had the highest peak torque @167. I also had driven 93 mi. and I went straight into the dyno with no time except the hookup. Mine is also an 02. The other top performers were an 06 JCW w/ MTH an 06, an 05, and an 03 with basically the same mods I have and MTH, and the highest was 163 with the others below 160.

Very interesting - care to share the peak HP numbers ? yours and the MTH cars?

I was the '06 JCW with MTH. I peaked at 184 hp with 1 hp drop on the consecutive 2 pulls. 160 ft/lbs of torque on all three pulls.

Thats great but need to see your mods and need the GIAC numbers and Mods. THIS is the closest yet I have come to seeing any ECU comparisons. SAME DYNO, SAME DAY - now its comparing numbers and understanding the MODS!!! IF the mods are the same then its almost a ECU shoot out!

Any chance you drove each others cars?

My mods are: Factory JCW. That's it. The worthless head, the intake that doesn't open until 4500 rpm, the craptastick 14.6% pulley and the JCW sophisticated sounding exhaust. And MTH software. And no, we did not drive each others cars.

So you love the JCW package and highly recommend it . I can appreciate you dropped $ on the package but have you considered adding a ITG filter, 17% pulley and eliminating the resonator?

Dam, we need MCS + MTH data to compare with the MCS + GIAC data. This is the closest, I have gone to getting some comparison ECU data.

ITG will go in as soon as the paper filter gets dirty enough. The wife won't let me take the resonator off. She likes the way it sounds. And instead of a 17% SC pulley I would rather go with a 2% crank pulley. But that argument is in progress. I think I might win that one.

I've heard the JCW w/out resonator - sounds great and I think better than stock - a little louder but not obnoxious in any way - but thats me. ITG filter is very nice - I'm running one on my MCS. 2% crank will do it!

OR M62

so would i

The ECU shootout would have to be done on the same car, same dyno, same hour......

Got to be honest, I am not sold on the M62 yet. Hard to get excited about something that doesn't exist yet (for the Mini), hasn't been tested and has no price. But as I know this would be a topic worthy of a great flame war , this is the only comment I will make about it.

Understandable - you are not alone.

If you are sold at this point its from a concept point of view. The second sell will be the kit and data from the Beta vehicles.

well i got the giac installed today (vary nice ). i'm not dissapointed in the least. i gained a solid 4 h.p. anda butload of torque. at the crank the torque is now over 200 ft.lbs from3500 to 5000 rpms it then tapers off. h.p. at crank is now 212 at 6000 rpm . i saw no point in going another 500 rpm for maybe another 1 hp on paper. all mease. taken on a dyno dynamics at 71 f. to the wheels is now 177 h.p. but the torque jumps from 1800 rpms to 3000 then gradually goes up to 5000 . giac richens things up a bit too . so all you from mass. area check out KTR permormance in ayer mass. it's a beautiful faccility and they'll be good to your car. 416.00 with tax

no graph for that just h.p. and torque. they showed it to me on the screen but i didn't think to grab a copy . it was obviously richer. they said giac does this to keep cyl' temps down which is fine with me ,i get great mileage now.so a little loss is okay.if i knew how to scan and post i'd put up the h.p. graph. they said my #'s would've been way higher on a mustang but whatever. at 6500 rpm's i figure maybe 215 at the flywheel . so is giac good ? hell yeah i had a great ride in today . oh btw the guys at ktr said harley did some serious testing on gas with ethanol due to all the complaints and have determined that mobil provides the best useable gas .
