Interrestingly enough...

spillman and I have been having a good conversation via PMs. He does know what he's up to. Just the delivery sometimes riles the troops. But life goes on.....

Searching?

I'm searching for info on the AGS!
Not having to wade through bickering NAMers would be nice.
MODS: Can we have a bickering section please.
Phreaks.

More people would be happy and less negative, if road performance figures where taken out of a 100MHz VBOX for ie or any other similar equipment.

I strongly feel that a combination of dyno and road performance measurements would be a solid base for the vendors to back up their products.
I must say that a test bed of this kind is supposed to be utilized by vendors during R&D and don't expect users like DrO to verify vendor claims, even though i really appreciate the commitment level they provide towards the MINI community.

Further down the absolute power saga.
Here in Greece i have seen car reviews that performed excellent on the dyno but came out poorly during road measurements and vise versa. And the the reasons for that only came out after VBOX data analysis.
Thanks

I feel a large segment of this conflict, as well as previous ones, comes down to a very simple issue: Some people want massive power from a small car, and some people want a small car with enough power. I think those in the Spillman, Tuls, Hubie camp definately want the first option. I'm pretty sure that SpiderX and other, myself included, would very much rather have the latter.

So you have the "More power!" crowd calling for numbers, and the "Fun car" crowd not so much worried about numbers as drivability, safety, reliability, etc. I'm not saying that TC's are completely unreliable, far from it, but you can't argue that there's a greater risk to reliability issues with a TC'd car.

I myself have a ~500 HP car in my garage. It does the trick, and I know what 500 HP drives like. There's no way in hell I'd want a 500 HP, or even a 350 HP MINI. What's the point? I could have easily saved myself $10K when I bought the MINI and had a 350+ HP car. I don't want a 300+ HP MINI. Not all of us do. It's pretty much as simple as that. To me, it's not about whether or not it can be done, because I really don't care.

I don't think I'm alone in this, and that's where Spillman is going to get resistance. Because he wants numbers that most of us really aren't all that concerned with. Yes, I'm interested to see what we can do, how much HP the AGS and DFIC can help make, but in the end, I don't have a goal to reach XXX WHP.

So to Spillman, Tuls, FTR, etc. it's not that I/we don't respect what you've done. Far from it. Go forth and do good things, you have our blessing, whatever it is that you are fishing for. But I/we really don't care all that much. It doesn't mean that we don't understand the systems, etc. that you have created, because a lot of us very much do. Maybe even better than you do, who's to say? There's no reason to make it into an all out war over who knows more about this or that, or even more importantly who has done what in their lives, etc. Mr. Horvath may be a former Photographer, but I'd bet he's spent more time under the hood of a car than you've been alive. What someone has done to pay the bills shouldn't give you any reason to discount what they can do with a MINI. Otherwise we could look at you and say we're taking advice from a, what, college freshman? Not to say that's bad, just reality.

It would be nice if that could have been made public so that we could see some capitulation and compromise......I thought I was being very patient.....hell a 19 year old with a TC Mini is a pretty cool kid in my book....I would like to see where he goes with his car... FWIW I was one of the few that was vocal about Jan's departure and hated that he was booted...started several "where's Andy" threads....hate it that Tuls is gone....and wish Ryan would post more often.....

Agree with that.

However, as "rough treatment" on a board goes, I didn't think we were rough on him at all.

Just trying to get him to back off the "numbers and dyno" position for this thread.

I edited my comments about his age, then Bob fired the shots anyway.

I fired before you edited...... and I thought I did a good job of saying that age is no consideration of accomplishment..... just attitude...sometimes....

anyway... I PMd him.....

But by the time the conversation had really started, the "I'm going away" thread had already started. Oh well.

I just got a nice PM from him and he just does not think this is the place for him.....

He made a suggestion that I go to forged pistons and I might at some point

He said he is going to follow the "62" kit..... maybe we will here from him...I hope so....

People can talk smack all day long about the M7's, Alta's, and the other Mini performance companies but the one thing that you cant deny is the fact that they were not doing all the research and testing that they do there would be no Pullys nor would they be any twincharged kits!!!! The only reason the consumer get a chance to tune our rides is from all the hard work they do, M7 is without a doubt the most customer friendly company I have ever dealt with as I am sure the others have good support, I commend all these companies for their hard work and dedication to what we feel is our livlihood!

What ever the arguement is about...

It's still very interesting to find out what the M62 can produce (in conjunction with AGS) ... I'm excited!

See post #61 in this thread. It doesn't appear the AGS will work with the M62 (as currently configured).

That is basically it..... I'm sure some fabrication could be done to accomodate the AGS but getting the kit running is the focus...... I never got to drive it with the shroud and the hole cut larger so heat soak was an issue even though the throttle response was improved.....

The M62 guys...

will probably make their own TB-SC duct. Remember, with the water pump removed there's a lot more room for ducting that doesn't look like the stock part: A crappy piece of plastic melted in the oven! So I wouldn't worry about AGS compatibility.....

Matt

and Spidy, I was driving my AGS without the heat shield (while I was tinkering on other stuff) and it was amazing how much worst the heat soak was! With the heat shield, it's much improved.....
