I was just wondering, when you buy the K&N Typhoon filtern they give you a pipe that just sticks out into the engine bay, right? Well what if that pipe which is an intake I guess, correct me if I am wrong, was replaced by say the Pipercross filter. I am just crazy, because it is 1:30a.m. If I am right, which I doubt, you could have 2 intakes, right? Someone please think for me...

No pics, I am just thinking. The Pipercross intake for the Mini, the carbon fiber one or almost any intake for the Cooper, if you look, most of them draw the air from the front bumper area, right? And if you were to order the Typhoon filter from K&N, I think they give you a piece of pipibg that just runs into the engine bay instead of to the front bumper, right? Is it possible to say have the K&N, and the Pipercross? Have the K&N for the S, but the Pipercross for the Cooper, but use them both on the S. I am probably wrong here. Someone please step in.

BTW, my idea. I am Copywrighting it so Randy cant make a bunch of money off it if I am right. J/K...

Are you talking about running a "fresh-air" hose from the exterior into the engine-bay, while using an aftermarket filter element?

Ok i just looked over the picture I saw in Sport Compact Car Magazine. The way the stock intake works is that it draws air from the front of the hood and unfer the stock filter element. Then the air that passes through is then taken through the throtle body, to the supercharger, through the intercooler, and then finally to the engine. An after market intake just draws air from the engine bay, right? So what happens to the inlet from the hood that originally passes throught the bottom of the stock filter? Is it possible to take that existing inlet, from the hood, and connect it to the tube that you already have on your intake? I probably don't make a lot of sense, make of it what you can. I will try and scan that pic so you can see what I am talking about.

Other intakes all draw their fresh air using the factory plumbing that the stock airbox uses. But it appears that the Typhoon doesn't use that and the 2nd tube you are seeing just directs the air to the back where the filter is.....I could be wrong as I haven't seen the system in person, but only pics...I don't think it is that great of a design if that is truely what they are doing.

Ok here is the pic. As you can see air comes in from the front of the engine bay. When you use an aftermarket intake, what happens to this? Can you put on another filter and connect the two of them?

it appears that the Typhoon just connects a tube to wear the air comes in and instead of routing the air under and back into the filter it just points it in that direction....i don't think this is a good design....all the other MCS intakes use the factory plumbing paths.

You guys aren't listening. What I am suggesting is different. Lets say that you have the Madness intake, does air come in from the grill, like the stock or does it just take it from the engine bay? If you connected a filter from the ilent from the grill and routed it to connect just before the throtle body, could you have 2 intakes? One that come from the grill, and one that comes from the engine bay?

It still comes in the same way, just larger filter area.

Ok, here's the thing:

For example, the Madness intake leaves the bottom of the stock airbox in place. All aftermarket intakes do this except the K&N. So the intake is still getting the air from the front as well as thru a small hole to the cowl area. The K&N intake uses the tube getting air from the grille to shoot air over the intake, instead of using the bottom of the stock box to get air from under the intake.

So no, you can't really put another intake on there, as the K&N is BLOWING air from that hose, not inhaling it to the engine. :wink:
