M7 Extreme Scoop and Alta Air Diverter

hey all

does anyone have the m7 extreme hood scoop and the alta air diverter installed? if so any air temp measurements? i know just the M7, from their website says it lowers the temp about 10F.

Thanks

I have one with my GRS, and it does indeed make a difference with temps! No fittment issues either, and from what I recall of seeing a couple Altas, I think you'll have no problems, but someone with this set-up is bound to chime-in to confirm...

thanks. yeah my M7 scoop in coming in the mail...HOPEFULLY SOON!!! been over a 5 weeks now. ugh, i'm dying. 7ent said they should have it from M7 soon. i sure hope so.

yeah i'll get the diverter first and maybe an intercooler way down the road. just got the new MCS 3 weeks ago so i'll have to wait on big stuff.

just curious on if anyone has taken any temperature reading with the M7 and the Diverter. Since the M7 drops it about 10 degrees F, maybe another 5 with the diverter??? possible?

thanks

It would be interesting to rig a jig that allows you to change air temps while on a enging dyno to map exactly what changes in temp means to the hp/tq curves......our engines will be a thing of the past pretty soon.....and that kind of analysis will probably never get done

Well I can tell you there can be a big difference. The last dyno day we did was at a place that hadn't done MINIs so they just ran a large floor fan pointed at the car. Not good. My second run they held a small high output fan right over the IC.
I picked up 18hp and 15 lbs/ft.

If you're good with numbers here's what you need to figure out the hp/tq question.

The "pocket dynos" (think GTech Pro or Palms, etc) are fairly accurate, and more importantly for these purposes, very consistent. To see how heat, or IAT impacts power-generation, simply do in-gear runs, at like 70, 80 and 90 degrees ambient.

interesting. maybe i'll take some temps, if i can figure out the best way to do it. i'm sure it'll help, more air caught with M7 then with Alta diverting that more air in, should probably help some. anyway, don't care, it'll look cool and i'll help. that's all that matters i guess.

I did some rather detailed testing, but with the GRS and stock ICs, and the stock and M7 Extreme scoop. You might find this of interest:

Does anyone have pics of their M7 Extreme Scoop on...like it's aggressive look, but have to see how aggresive or 'extreme' looking it is?!?!? If I get it...I'll get it colour matched to my Electric Blue MINI...or maybe Black to match my roof...any pics would be great!

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing your pics, your MINIs look amazing with it on...even though it looks kinda odd...not only does it look aggressive, it also provide a function .

Did you find the install quick?
Were additional modifications/cuts required to make the scoop fit flush onto the hood?
Did you buy it pre-painted from M7, if so how was the quality?
And finally, does the IC run colder and better since the install?

Thanks!
Jason

hey

i haven't had the pleasure of installing mine yet. it hasn't come in yet, it'll be here july 10th... only a couple of more days left!!! So i can't help you on any of the install questions.

i did have M7 paint it. don't have it so i can't tell you quality but i'm sure it's good quality. if no one else posts, i'll let you know how it looks.

to me it looks really cool and it's really aggressive and it will make mine stick out from all the other stock MINI owners who do nothing to their cars to make them more FUN!

Before

After:

2 pics from MOTD06:

I also have the air diverter installed.

Have to admit though, I don't think I've ever made use of the sprayer.

About 1800 pics in my gallery linked in my sig (1300+ Mini related).

I had mine pre-painted by M7. Install is pretty easy. Uninstalling the old scoop is dangerous, because it has cheap plastic housings around the nuts the bolts fasten down to... And applying torque to loosen this bolt tears through the cheap housing. BE CAREFUL WHEN UNINSTALLING YOUR OLD SCOOP! It's not hard, which is why you have to be careful because it looks 'too simple' and it is... But it's easy to break that housing.

Absolutely.
Just a suggestion. If you plan to remove the scoop more than once you can build up the support around the capture bolts with epoxy, fiberglass, JB Weld, etc. As noted the side walls will break easily.
Doing this will help a lot.
Yes, I learned the hard way

Also on my M7 Ram Intake scoop install I inserted rubber grommets in the bonnet holes and used lock washers with the 4 nuts. The scoop sits flush with the bonnet and hasn't come loose since this install.
cheers,

HOLY HELL!!!

just installed my Extreme scoop and it is one of the best looking mods i've seen on a MCS. If you are thinking about getting a new scoop, get the extreme scoop. the pictures help you see it but until you see it in person and just look at the front end of the car, you don't know how cool it really looks. WOW is all i can say. It makes the front look so much more aggressive and sporty. i urge all who are thinking about it to get it, you'll be happy! it's worth the price of admission.

now just to wait on my alta air diverter...

installation

the install went very easy on my 2006 MCS JCW. Screws required very little pressure to get the old scoop off and the old one went on with just a little minor drilling to make the front screw holes fit...just off by about 1 mm. just a little side action of the drill bit and in it went. everything else fit perfectly. I guess MINI realized that they were maybe tightening the screws too much on the original one so they loosened up a bit.
