Drivetrain (sigh) Taking my Magnaflow off.
#1
Hi there,
I have to say that I think the Magnaflow is a GREAT product and I'll certainly miss the power.
At this point in my opinion (maybe I'm just gettin' old) it's just too loud. After a weekend trip of ~300 miles the sound takes more from the car than it gives. We averaged 70 to 80 MPH with some obligitory sprints around 100 and after returning home this evening we had a headache.
I'll sleep on it and maybe I'll change my mind in the morning. Who knows, I'm that way sometimes.

Been there...done that....
It's a great system..... & produces terrific increases in power.
BUT....
IMHO....it's loud & it drones.
The droning was what gave me the " headaches" that you mentioned...but I started to get em ..after about 10 miles or so,
I must be that much older ?
Peace,
D

No, it's not returnable so I'll let it go for the right price.
Where are you located? I'm in Madison, WI.

Another one bites the dust  ?
Can't believe it. I still love my Magnaflow. Performance with the sound to match. Gotta love the cool bugle tips announcing your arrival !
Drone? What drone? Did you say something? Couldn't hear you.
As far as ruining my kids hearing, they don't listen half the time so what will it matter?
His, Chile Red all over / Hers, EB UJ on top.

Hey 2 and d, What is your opinion on the Borla system? I am tending to go that way and I found the installation can be done at home. Any thoughts?? Anyone>>>Post or PM me. Thanks

Jim -
If Rotary Coach doesn't take the exhaust (if indeed you decide to get rid of the system), I'll come get it. I'm located in East Peoria, Illinois - just a few hours south of you. I can be reached at matts@ionagroup.com. I don't need my hearing...
Thanks!

Nope this will continue to happen all the time. I think that altitude, temp and humidity all play a part in changing the tone at times. It seemed when it would rain it would get louder. I changed to the quicksilver and am a much happier person. Same power 1/2 of the noise and its wife tested and approved
I also have a magnaflow system that I will let go for the right price. PM with offers.

>>I'm amazed at all the complaints about the loudness of the Magnaflow. Mine is WAY, WAY quieter than I expected. Mine sits fairly snug with the valence and has exhaust sealant on both joints.
>>
>>Ah well, guess it isn't for everyone.
I hear you completely Andy. Perhaps this is the secret formula? I Was cruising the freeway today at 70-80 mph and still don't understand the loudness / drone issue. My Magnaflow system was welded at each joint, and ALSO fits fairly snug with the valence. I have only about 1/4 inch of the bugle tip past the edge of the skirt / valence.

Jim,
I had a similar problem. You might want to a) add a resonator (small muffler usually locates between the engine and the mufflers) or b) cut out one or both of the mufflers and add a different, and slightly smaller one (s). This shouldn't cost you any power as long as the mufflers are straight through.

Jayoung, I feel your pain! I only lasted 83 miles. Drone and vibrations made driving a chore instead of a pleasure. The rattles and vibrations my MCS had w/ the Magnaflow were unbearable! BUT, there is no denying there was a fistful of extra oomph. I have the aero kit and it was a tight fit at the rear bumper. The Magnaflow didn't want to sit centered either. I now have a nice dime sized black melted spot on the rear bumper from the hot bugle tips :???:
I envy you guys who find it acceptable.

mike,
I would talk to George - I'm sure he would let you try it out, and then if you have a problem, you can return it. It's no fun doing mods if you're afraid to try them out
As for the Magnaflow - I think the installation is key. It goes on the easiest of the aftermarket systems out there, but the tip length and clamps used are key. We have found that moving the tips out from the valence about an inch and a half really helps with any noise related issues. You just have to check to make sure you don't move it to the point you are rubbing on the heat shield at the rear of the car.
The system is loud, but I have to agree with Andy - it just ain't that loud! (oh, I'm sorry, was I yelling, I'm a little hard of hearing . Just ask Dennis - he's just about solutioned out!
