I have a question about the clutch engagement point.

Hello all, I will hopefully be ordering a MCS JCW this coming week and I have a question about the clutch engagement point. I noticed on the test drive that the clutch pedal travel is looooooong and has a high engagement point. Is there an adjustment to change the travel or engagement point? After seven years of driving a Miata with very short clutch pedal travel and a low engagement point, the MINI is going to take some serious getting use to.

You'll get used to it. Go drive a big pile of manual tranny cars, you'll see each one is different. Even different aftermarket clutches for the MINI all feel different!

To answer your question however, there's no adjustment on the clutch [that I know of], as it's hydraulic.

Cheers,
Ryan

When I test drove a MINI in late 2002... the engagement point was very close to the floor. When I picked up my MINI in Feb 2003, it's engagement was about the same point.

This took some getting used to since all the cars I am used to driving had the engagement point at the top of the throw.

Then I had my clutch upgraded and the engagement point is now at the top of the throw.

As Ryephile stated, I don't think BMW designed a way to adjust the engagement point.

I got 2006 MCS, my engagement point seems low. When I know I'm gonna be switching gears, I don't let out my clutch all the way. Is this doing any damage to my car??

Potentially, yes. If the clutch doesn't fully engage the pressure plate you will get premature wear.
You should never rest your foot on the clutch pedal.

I've got two 2002 Minis and the clutch engagment points are very different. One is very high and the other is practically at the floor. Which is "right"? Is there any way to make them match??
