dyno'd my car
I dyno'd my mcs on tues at new german performance and it dyno'd 156whpat 6500 rpm's on the first run and 161 whp on the 2nd run at 6800 rpm's. I know that's on the high side but I did break it in as suggest in the (motomans method). NGP sent the dyno's to me through an email and the numbers were lower than what I saw on the dyno screen ,so I callled and asked them about it and they said that the program that converts the file to be emailed causes something called smoothing. they said that it might not pick up a spike of one or two hp an smooth it out to the clearest number it reads. I don't know if that's ******** or not ,but even with lower #'s it's still strong. I have the dyno's but I don't know how to post. If someone can post for me I wil send them in an email

my car has 2200 miles and is stock. I wanted to get a base line beforew I have a pully and intake installed next week. I will dyno again after that

nothing really unusual about dynoing a little high with our little cars. Most ppl agree that the 170bhp from BMW is just a little bit understated :nod:. 161whp is about 183bhp, and i've heard a lot of ppl saying that they reckoned that the real bhp figure is more like 180-185.....

On the other hand, Porsche ppl will claim that ALL, as in EVERY engine that leaves the factory will be 3 - 4 bhp greater than advertised ... then again they cost 4 times as much. |
Are these #'s SAE corrected? How much smoothing has been applied? What manufacturer of dyno? These play an important factor in understanding the numbers.
Another critical issue is that your HP numbers should continue to increase all the way to redline. So the higher RPMs you go on the dyno, more than likely unless something is outta tune, the higher the HP you'll get. Best yet is to compare torque numbers over the entire RPM range between dyno runs. :-) |

it was a dynojet dyno and yes they are sae corrected. I tried to upload but the jegpeg is to big and I don't know how to reduce the size to be able to post

I just looked at the dyno's again and it say's SAE smoothing 5. not sure what that means?

Dyno runs. Green is @ about 30F with crank pulley and car was still pretty warm from the drive. Red and Blue are after the stock crank pulley reinstalled and Unichip was installed. To me the car feels smoother and just as stronge. I don’t notice the power drop and I think it was temp or due to the tranny for power flux. The crank pulley didn’t make that much more power. Porsche also does a bench break in for each of their engines...so there is no need for a break-in when you buy the car. I think part of the variation is due to the break in style, or variation of the suggested break in for the mini. I also did a "non-suggested" break in, and my car seems to pull very strong compared to other MCS's I've driven. |
