178 WHP with mods-What's a JCW?
 

I put my '05 MCS on the dyno today and got 178.1 wheel horsepower and similar torque. I guess that makes flywheel HP around 210...How does that compare to an '05 JCW on a dyno? How does that compare to those of you have done mods to your '05 cars? Dynochart attached. It'll be interesting to see the results next with a header and cat-back system...

178.1 whp is pretty good, 178.1 lb-ft at the wheels is astounding. :eek2:

anyone got a dyno of a 05MCS with ALTA CAI. Maybe a dyno posting thread? I think you got some great results!

Those torque numbers are very good when compared to WHP...how did you do it? If I could get that ratio going I would be thrilled.

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how closely matched the torque and wheel HP were too. But, I knew from driving the car that it had a great deal of mid-range power. I came out of a C-5 Corvette with 420hp and I am absolutely amazed at the performance--by every measure--this car has. It certainly outhandles the 'Vette; is quieter and nicer riding; and the power absolutely impresses me. I think the results are from a good match of the parts I have installed. HOW DID you convert 178 whp to 210 fhp?
My MCS put out 170 at the wheels with CAI, Ehaust, and unichip>

Actually the MINI has an 11% driveline loss so 178 wheel horsepower would be exactly 200hp at the flywheel.

I thought I had read on the web that the conversion for flywheel HP is about 15% greater then dynoed wheel HP. Is that right?

He assumed the common 15% driveline loss instead of MINI's 11%.

:thumbsup: :thumbsup: on those torque #'s

On average, an automatic tranny loses about 15-18% while a manual tranny only loses 10-12%.

I've never seen a MINI dyno like that though. The torque curve is a bit odd. Peak torque is very low in the RPM band - in the 3k-3.5k range and the area under the curve isn't that great with the torque line going all the way down to 130 at redline.

I've put on an MTH tuner file since, and just haven't had time to go back..but I'm hoping it will do something to fix up that messy AF Ratio...

I'm thinking about getting the 2% pulley would that effect the torque?

so what might u be insinuating???

Acknowledging that I am an old hot rodder and not an expert with today's mod technology, I suspect that the crank pulley does have some effect [think of a light flywheel, for example]. However, I think the key element is the EvoTech software map that was tailored to my other mods.

yea...that EvoTech stuff is up to par, good choice!!

i wonder... my 03 pulled 183 at the wheels, but my torque is at a brutally low 160 lb/ft.... i was thinkin of doing a header, but that'd just help top end again, maybe a 2% crank pulley would be in my future... i wonder when pilo's done with the dampened crank pulley

Here's a plot with an '05 JCW 210 kit as the baseline (as compared with the Helix TurboKompressor Kit). This is on the high side for JCW 210s: we usually see 179 to 181 peak hp at the wheels. We always use uncorrected wheel torque figures. I might be slim but I'm not shady.

Wow! You Helix guys have shown a truly impressive gain with the "dual charger" system you sell.

The smaller you make the pulley the more torque you'll have. There's a direct relationship. But you could make a lot more power by ditching the JCW software. It was designed specifically for all the parts of the JCW including the head. It's been tested with aftermarket 15% pulley, intake and exhaust and it lost considerable power. Or get an aftermarket ECU like GIAC and add probably 20hp over that JCW software. The JCW software does some other things including smoothing things out and making it a bit more responsive than stock - so you may actually think the JCW software is making power. But on the dyno, it'll show a loss.

Nothing actually except that the torque curve really is odd. It peaks very early and comes down fairly fast. I haven't seen a MINI's torque curve look like that - that's all. :smile:
