stock pulley

hi,

this may have been discussed before, but I did not find anyhting after a couple of searches so...

How hard is it to re-install the stock pulley after installing an Alta 15%?

is it a one way trip? or can it be done...

Thanks

pulley

I was told that once you take it off, its only good as a paper weight....

british kompressor 08-31-2005 10:00 PM

what is the technical reason for this?

bdmini 08-31-2005 11:00 PM

It's pressed on from the factory I believe, hence the need for a puller to remove it off the s/c shaft. Although, my SA told me that if the need ever arose where the warranty was an issue to put the stocker back on. Is he unaware of the O.E. pulleys design or can it be put back on?

The stock pulley is installed and positioned at the factory to the exact location needed for correct alignment with the pulley belt. Once you pull the stock pulley off you won't be able to align it easily which is critical.

Once you install a reduction pulley using a two piece taper fit you can sometimes purchase a stock sized aftermarket pulley to replace the reduction pulley. It won't look like a stock pulley but it will function like one.
Check with Alta if they make one.

Helix13 has a stock pulley option for their upgraded pulley.

the stock pulley fits flush to the end of the supercharger shaft.
the centre of the supercharger shaft is threaded I think its an M8 thread,
if you heat the stock pulley up in an oven and carefully place it back on the shaft and then use a M8 bolt with large penny washer and thread the bolt into the shaft it will press the stock pulley back on tighten the bolt till the pulley sits in line with the end of the shaft.

So basically if you were thinking of getting a pulley and then going back to stock some day you see its not an easy proposition.

Randy of Webb Motorsports warrants the pulley against failure and against killing your engine. Read his warranty page: Warranty

which says, and I quote: "... excludes incidental and consequential damages, including loss of time, inconvenience, or loss of the use of the vehicle"

Which begs the bigger question, has anyone gotten warrenty service after using an aftermarket pulley and how much of an inconvenience was it (e.g., loss of your vehicle) since It might be a bit difficult to get service from CO, or any other tuners' home state) Anybody? This would be good to know for future buyers.https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...s/NAMsmile.gif

For example, if you live in CA and your tuner is in PA, how you getting the car out to them for warrenty service?

You will be hard pressed to find someone who has had a problem Randy has worked on. Reason being he only does 15 and 16% pulleys and has had like 0 problems so far. Thats why he doesn't install bigger ones.

Use a hotplate and have a gallon of water ready. When it glows, it goes. Do not plan on removing it easily at a later date....it must be cut off as the fit becomes tighter than any puller will remove.

Thats why am Asking. What is the actual "track record" so to speak. Where is the emperical data and not just ancedotal information? That would be very good to know for potential customers, and, in fact, would be a MAJOR selling or marketing point.https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...es/NAMwink.gif

One of the big selling points to have him personally install a pulley on your car is that he has personally installed over 600.

i was number 453, i think. 452 or 453...

jac 09-01-2005 12:14 PM

Does the warrantee include self-installed pulleys?

There is some part in there about that Warranty

I know Randy guaranties his work, but the problem is that I live in Montreal, Quebec. This means I will be installing it myself.

This begs another question, has this been tested in -35C weather?

And please dont answer that it's the same as the JCW...

I would be far more concerned about the "warrenty" because there never seems to be a straight answer. Maybe nobody cares.

I think the issue is the problem resulting from a 15% size pulley are rare.
