And it would still be a Neon

I'm slow, I'm sorry

...catching up...

If 19,000rpm sound facinating, convert this to seconds - 316 revolutions per SECOND! Makes me begin to consider instaneous acceleration once again...

The post was a response to another post telling Hubie to go whoop up on some SRT-4's in your stock looking MCS. I just was stating that there are quite a few stock looking SRT-4's that would eat this 430whp Mini and spit it out. I never said I liked the SRT-4, that it was better looking, or that it still wasn't a Neon.

I am not trying to be a smart aleck here. I just didn't know that there were a whole lot of SRT-4s with that much power. Doesn't the MINI weigh less than the SRT-4? How much hp do they get out of a heavily modded Neon?

srt stuff to get to 400+ hp and their cars i think are about 3200 lbs

AFTERMARKET SCHOOL OF THOUGHT :
240+hp-275+hp range
Stage 1 mopar upgrade $399 =+10-15hp

Spark plugs:
NGK plug#LZTR5AIX-1 (1 range colder than stock,.40-.45 gap)

Exhaust
-cat back ~$300-$750 =+7-12hp
-downpipe (cat-less) ~$149-$250 +10-15hp
-downpipe (high flow cat) ~$149-$350 =+7-12hp
-full turbo-back exhuast (cat-less) ~$350-$1050 =+12-25hp
-full turbo-back exhuast (high flow cat) ~$450-$1100 =+12-25hp

Waste gate actuator (WGA) ~$149-$200=+12-25hp

Manual boost controller (MBC)~$30-$250=+12-25hp
OR
Electronic boost controller (EBC) ~$250-$650=+12-25hp

Intake ~$149-$350 =+1-12hp
OR
K&N air filter(stock air box) ~$30-$75 =+1-5hp

AFTERMARKET SCHOOL OF THOUGHT :
275+hp-300+hp range
First upgrades (as above)+

NGK plug#LZTR5AIX-1 (1 range colder than stock,.35-.40 gap)
Larger front mount intercooler (FMIC)
~$350-$1050 +10-20hp
60-55mm throttle body ~$250 +5-10hp
True 60mm throttle body+60mm spacer ~$370 +7-15hp
Ported manifold ~$250-$399 +10-20hp
-3" O2 sensor housing~$150-$180 +7-12hp

AFTERMARKET SCHOOL OF THOUGHT :
300+hp-650+hp range
Second upgrades (as above)+

BIG TURBO KIT $1550-$4000 =150+hp-450+hp
BRAKE upgrade $650-$1850

Hubies car is basiclly stock besides the turbo system and the pistons these cars are way more involved and costly to get them going.

I have seen 500+hp SRT-4's. Not a ton, but they are out there. You can make 350whp with just a Mopar Stage 3 kit, which is a pretty safe, simple and cheap way to get to 350whp. I heard that someone has a 600whp SRT-4 somewhere and that it is a daily driver. Again, I don't like the cars, just stating that the most heavily modified Mini in America while is great is not necessarily the fastest thing on wheels. It is very fast, but SRT-4's, EVO's and other cars can go quite extreme as well. There are 800hp EVO's, 1200hp Vipers (actually a lot more of these than people realize). This wasn't to discredit the SPI car, which is still quite an accomplishment for the Mini, and with the weight of the Mini is most likely very fast.

I'm sorry, but you've lost your mind.

1) the SPI turbo kit is one of the most expensive kits on the market --> comparing this to typical sport-compact prices.
2) the same amount of money put into a neon would result in MUCH more power. Using the "% stock" argument is pointless. In my mind, it's dollars spent per torque gained. And yes, I tend to ignore max HP numbers on peaky turbo cars.

Some of you have a serious complex with the Neon... yes, it'll "still be just a neon", but it will "still be faster". It's always a performance oriented thread that someone pulls out the "still a neon" line... that's loser-speak.

Here here! True the Neon in any trim isn't my choice of car - but faster is faster. My buddy here just got a 12k mint Mach 1. Yes it's 'just a mustang' but it's a ~4.7 mustang. For that matter, I get 'it's still just a mini' quite often when I talk about my car and mods.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I really wasn't trying to be a smart aleck. I don't know a whole lot about these "tuner" cars. I used to mess around with old Fords, flatheads and such. I saw my first SRT-4 just after posting in this thread and the guy was driving it hard on the freeway, it was fast! (I am not the kind of guy to say things like it's just a Neon) So I was serious in my query. I am a huge fan of our cars for more than just the power but I do think what Hubie (and guys like him) is doing with the MINI is extremely promising. So sorry for the thread highjack, keep it up Hubie. Looking forward to you crashing through the next barrier!

I agree with the hp per $

however we do not drive civics etc. for some reason we fall into a hight price point with everything, because our cars are made by bmw is my guess. That is true with everything that is made for our cars althoght it is getting better. I drive a very early 02 so I bought most of the stuff that is on my car at interductory prices ie. I have spent more than what the spi kit costs and it is still about what jcw costs thats all I am saying. It is not for everyone but it does the job and makes my fast mini seem slow.

I also think that any car that is modded well is cool its the state of mind the an owner has which I enjoy no matter what they drive.
