Drivetrain New Borla race system
Has anyone tried the new Borla "race" version? I'm curious if it puts out more power than thier standard unit, and how much louder it is. A direct comparision to the Magnaflow would be interesting. Any chance of that Randy?
I'm very interested to know... Hurry up Guys... we need some feedback ASAP

I am not sure what exactly the borla "race" system consists of, I remembering reading in Grassroots Motorsports (best magazine ever by the way) that they had tried a straight pipe setup for the cooper and it gained only a couple of horsepower. The catback systems were almost as good. FWIW...
DK23,
I'm in "negotiations" now for the Borla system. The issue that I was dissapointed in was the design of the outside diameter. It still appears that Borla just took the same design and put a resonator after the cat and used some higher flowing mufflers. That means they still use 2 1/4" pipe and then split that into a Y with smaller secondaries into the mufflers and out into the tips. I doubt it will make more power than the Magnaflow (because that whole system is 2 1/2" all the way to the tips after the resonator), but it may be close, and if the sound is right, it could be another option.
As for the Grassroots comparison, that may be apples and oranges due to the forced induction of the Cooper. It appears that the Cooper may need backpressure to develop as much power as it can, whereas the MCS makes more power the with less restriction to the flow. The Cooper does well with the Rogue, Remus, Borla, and Magnaflow systems - all of which provide more backpressure than the Magnaflow MCS system.
I'll keep everyone updated on the progress of the testing.
By the way, my MCS is now a full on screamer with the Pipercross, the Magnaflow, and the MINI-Motorsport airbox mod. You get a very throaty exhaust note and a ferocious supercharger whine. I still think there is even more power in the Intake possibilities with the Madness/Rogue. More testing!

I hope you're not planning on using this for street driving. Part of the MINI revolution is to be environmentally friendly, not spewing extra emissions in the search for more power.

Say whaaa? The MINI revolution is different for each person - and it appeals to many different people on many different levels, hot rodding being one of them. The engine functions more efficiently as an air pump (which is what a motor is) and even gets better mileage depending on modifications - so it actually uses less of the dreaded fossil fuel - more green! Also, the Magnaflow, and any other CAT-BACK system doesn't get rid of the catalytic converter, so there are no more "toxic" fumes being spewed into the atmosphere than an un modified car.

I find it very irratating living in california hearing everyone talk about environmentally friendly cars and getting all upset about performance mods when the real problem is the excessive amounts of older cars that I see driving every day in LA, now they pour out extra emissions. And if you were to do your research, even if all the cars were running at low emissions vehicles you would still have the same problem since the larger source of the pollution is the factories. Sorry I had to go off, but to hear someone say modding a mini is wreckless to the environment, well, that's just absurd, without any exhaust at all it is still 10x cleaner than that 81 Tercel sitting next to you in traffic that black smoke pours out of. To each their own, and like randy said, everyone's mini experience is for different reason.

Several years ago when Washington State started Em-testing, I took my modded '60 Sprite to the Machine to see what it would do ... it registered so low, they thought their new machine was broken, or at least needed recalibrating ...
The point being that not all old cars are bad, and tuning can actuall help the Environment by making the pump more efficent.

Jim,
It's the S system by Pipercross. I have it on the car for evaluation purposes, and definitely still recommend the Rogue/Turner/Madness (all the same one) intake.
I like the BMP too, but for looks, install quality and availablity of the strut brace use, not for sheer power.
Here's a pic of the Pipercross:

Hope this helps.
