HELP! Lost Boost Pressure!

Ok so on the way home i floor it because something didnt feel right. Well sure enough im only gettin 5psi at full throttle. The only mod done to the motor is an Alta CAI. I cant figure out what it is. Belt didnt sound like it was sliping. My only guess is the bypass valve. Is there something stupid that it could be that i could fix so it would save me a trip to the dealer?

Try doing Ryephix #1 and tying the bypass valve closed. That will tell you if it's gone bad and not closing completely.

If that's the problem, take it to the dealer and make them replace it.

Is your engine making a wheezy sound like a broken set of bagpipes?

defective wastegate

i just had a similar problem. The wastegate stuck open, it was defective. when that happens the computer shuts down any boost for emissions. the car ran, but very sluggishly and i could only accelerate slowly. it was covered under warrantee.

Hence my suggestion to tie it closed and see what happens.

Oh, and you'll find that most MINI dealers "have never heard of" many problems that are commonly discussed. I think they have special training for them to learn to say that phrase and sound sincere.

Here are the common issues I've seen:

- Check the Alta hose on the throttle body
- Check the green gasket at the inlet to the supercharger - right between the superchager and the black ABS plastic piece that is attached to the throttle body
- Check the bypass valve, you can snap it shut by hand if it is stuck open
- Check the intercooler boots on both sides - T30 torx bits - pull them off and make sure the bottom isn't blown off (you can't usually see it)

Hope that helps!
Randy

Well thanks everyone for the suggestions, and thanks randy for chimeing in. BUt i took the car to the dealer today since it is under warranty. I told them i wanted the car back ASAP, so they told me it will be worked on tomorrow. I told them to call me once they figured out what it was. So as soon as I know i will post and let you all know what it was.

Thanks again
Matt

Why did you ask us for advice if you weren't going to try even the simplest suggestion?

Well i wasnt sure if it was still under warranty, and then i found out it was. I was goin to try to fix it but i dont really have much time because i have to go out of town for work in the next couple of days......so i figured i would give it to them and hope they get it done fast. But if anybody feels i wasted there time on giving me suggestions then sorry. But like i said, givin the situation im pressed for time, so i took it to them.

Did the dealer have any issues w/ the Alta Intake on the car when they did the warantee work on the bypass valve?
