What's the bottom line on the recall?
I did a search and didn't find a direct answer to the recall mod.
Does it mess up the performance of the car? My car is a 2002 and has the stock ECU with a Typhoon, 15% and Magnaflow. It runs great, better than more than a few other MCS and JWC's. It must be one of the "fast one's". I'm scared that when they install the program it will slow her down. Feedback people, I need some feedback:thumbsup: Thanks Rory |
The v40 update is required to pass smog in the Republic of Kalifornia. Ask 10 people and you will get 10 diffrent answers on how their vehicles run after software upgrades. I wish I could tell you things will be fine, but that might make me a liar.

I got the v.39.2 software installed a few weeks ago under the recall and it was OK until today I noticed severe yo-yo (my son said "are you trying to give me whiplash?") that I never had before. A bit of stumble especially in first.
Not sure if v.40 software fixes any of this. |
Hi, Rory! Yeah...in Cali, we cannot register our MINIs unless we have the service bulletin work done.
I've been putting it off, but will book Wanda's appointment this week. I dread it, too. :sly: Clover  |
Mixed results
I don't notice a change in performance per se, but I do notice a much more conservative throttle tip in. It seems like the car is taking a breath before going. If you stomp on it, it drives the same.....
For me, the jury is out. But I'd lean to a bit worse....... Matt |
I just wish I was in the business of writing software updates for BMW/MINI

Kind of like Microsoft security patches?

I had the V.39 flash about 2 months ago. Mostly not noticeable, except occasionally a rough or lumpy idle. I asked the service manager about the V.40 that has been talked about on this and other forums and he said that 40 is actually a BMW flash, not for MINI. Secondly, that there wasn't any engine management change after 3.8. So in other words, V.39 only addressed the smog/gas cap issue, not performance. And at this point there is yet no factory cure for the sporadic rough idle that some cars seem to have. Now I really love my MCS, but if I wanted computer bugs that don't ever seem to get fixed, I'd be working on Windows, not a Mac.
Maybe BMW should consult with Apple on things other than the iPod. |

v40??? Man I didn't even know they had anthing past v39, didn't even know about v39.2??? I'm a few hundred miles before my first service and now I'm worried. I have little to no yoyo and knock on wood nothing out of the ordinary to report. My mini's been trouble free, knock on wood of course.

Gas Milage
Since the upgrade my highway milage has droped from 33 mpg to 27 mpg. I really haven't noticed any other differences. Maybe I have to push it more to make it feel good.

Simple fact is we are in the copmputer gen. If it ain't broke don't fix. If it is broke I hope the tech (not mech,k knows how to fix it)
