Knocking/timing monitor

Hello all,

Sorry for reposting this from the R60 thread. I thought I would have a better response here! I have RPM Stage 2 tune and want to keep an eye out for knocking. I wanted to to see what other people are doing here for monitor knocking? Do you know if there’s a cheap way to monitor knocking via obd or a cheap monitor? I use OBD2 with obd fusion app but couldn’t find any PIDs for this. Alternatively should I just monitor the timing advance? Would that be enough? What is a clear indicator that there’s a knocking event from timing?

thanks!

I installed the Phormula KS-3 knock sensor before revising my Stage 3. A standalone knock sensor gives me some peace of mind. It's my daily driver so reliability is important to me. Pushing over 290hp on factory internals is about all you can ask for out of this motor. I use custom software during tuning to see and record live data which gives me access to the knock sensor but that's only useful during tuning. After tuning it only takes one bad tank of gas to ruin your day. Link here for pictures of the unit and scroll down a bit for the install. Phormula KS-3
