3rd Gen Hood Louvers Installed
Has anyone installed hood louvers on their F56S? Was thinking about it and wanted to get some ideas on potential fit, etc...

Yes, Vents. I was going to install some on the sides of my hood to allow for better airflow.

Ah, gotcha. If you are using the stock air box it isn’t worth it. That is a sealed system so you wont get any more air into it with our without the vents |
If you google "mini f56 duell ag hood" you can get some ideas. The actual duell AG hood is several thousand $'s i believe and quite hard to get your hands on. Might be worthwhile being the guinea pig on one of the Chinese replicas of it for ~$800.
This would have to be carefully planned out so that its providing good airflow for the intake, but at the same time not dumping water in on it. I can imagine vents would help decrease under hood temps, which could also help out with intake air temps. One of these hoods paired with a Mini Works functional hood scoop could potentially warrant some much lower under bonnet temps. Im tempted to try :razz: |
Where can i get a chinese replica? I want to cut the hood louvers too but I am trying to figure where to route the windshield hoses? Anyone have ideas??

I'm currently in the design and test fitting prototype phase with the R5X hood. If you look at my thread "good God I bought another clubman" you can follow its development. It's going to have three vents, a center and two over the wheel wells. This will greatly reduce under hood pressure (lift) and give exceptional cooling. Combined with an open hood scoop it will work even better.
send me a picture of the underside of your hood. The design I'm doing will require NO CUTTING of any structural hood members. There will be some trimming of excess flanges but the hood structure will stay intacked. The center vent is close to final configuration. The side vent has had a major change from what I've posted. It is slightly smaller in width and tapered to follow the hood lines. It's also getting straight vents instead of curved ones. The placement of the vents also avoids any sensitive areas under the hood that could be hurt by water.

Just did the base coat on the vents. I'm going with mini Jet Black.

everyone who sells hood vents has a sales pitch how theirs is better. Dont buy into any of it. Unless the vent/ heat extractor is designed for a specific car they are probably not going to get the exalted effect. I did my own homework based on several criteria. Looks, heat extraction, underhood components and hood structure all lead the way for my design. I think I've hit all four very well with looks being subjective. |

That big square intake looks a little "ricer" if you ask me.....but to each their own I guess. :lol:

I'm 55 and going to be driving a ricer LOL.....cool! There is actually a method to my madness. That scoop houses the engine oil cooler and the vent behind it is actually the heat escape. There will be a pan under the hood to direct the heat out. I thought it kinda stupid to put a 220 degree radiator in front of the engine so I made a stupid hood scoop to put it in. The scoop also has passages for engine air cooling. I didnt start this project to be a total bolt on guy I also like to make things and this is my hobby. I still have the old S hood to go back to if I'm not happy or it's too over the top (ricer). The car will have a stage three tune and a 42mm turbo is installed along with all the other upgrades to make it better. I've got less than $150, including the hood, into it at this point so not a huge investment.

Why is the carbon fiber eventuri intake a couple of thousand bucks, but an entire carbon fiber hood with vents is $700?
