Open F56 hood scoop
I talked to Evolve Automotive and looks like they found a way to open the hood scoop on F56. I did this on my R56 to cool down under hood/intake temps. I care about that more than aerodynamics. Duell AG posted something similar to that on their Instagram page. It was around $2200 if I remember correctly

Opening the hood scoop
The F56S needs to run at a narrow, but high temperature range. If you open that scoop, wouldn't you be adding cool air to the engine compartment, but not the air intake. Doesn't sound like a good idea.Wouldn't be more effective to add a device that would cool air going into the intake and keeping the engine compartment like it is?

From looking at some of the first pictures of the design they just cut to ovals in the metal section just under the scoop which is not to hard to do.
my concern with this design is were does the water go when it rains ? I canot see any rain drain section in the intake. |
They said that the inner unit has drain holes.
Looking at the photo, and my F56S, it appears that MINI originally intended to have a unit similar to this. Otherwise, why have the rectangular holes? Since I have a CAI, it may increase flow a little but probably will not have any noticeable effect. With this system I could see some benefits, over the factory OEM system. It appears that the "fake" screen has not been removed and the intake area is actually on the bottom. That would give an opening to the inner, rectangular openings. While the rubber(ish) seals on the intake does match the hood inner opening, the upper opening is much smaller, perhaps 1/3. Notice the position of the upper left retaining nut, it is inside the opening. Makes mods of the factory unit not plausible. I need to check out a unit for the R56. A 50% screen, replacing the OEM fake one, with a 90 degree bend to cover an inch of the horizontal material (removed), may provide a little more free air to the CAI. May try it. Being at 6,500 ft. elv. any additional air is beneficial. |

The Eventuri intake is now available for preorder. Seems to be around $1,600 which to me seems absolutely insane. At the price you could get a tune and FBO. With any quality cold air system and an intercooler setup, the F56 stays plenty cool as far as intake temps are concerned.

$1600 ..... I'll pass. There is a lot more things I can buy for my car than an intake with that price

It looks great thats for sure but the alleged hp numbers are pretty much universal for all the intakes in the market.
But, one thing good about cars, to each its own! Im jealous if you pull the trigger. |

That is a sweet looking setup. After spending $800 for the ArmaSpeed intake I was starting to think maybe I needed some adult supervision..... or maybe a straight jacket! :grin: But, for a mere $800 more I could have a system that looks sweeter and makes no more horsepower. I'm not knocking the Eventuri at all, but if I dropped that much on an intake that is mostly bling, I'd be looking to book an extended stay in a rubber room. As Vinnie put so succinctly, "to each his own". That's half the fun of a Mini... making it uniquely your own.

Well, I just placed my order. IND distribution has a black Friday sale going on and it took $200 off.

Since we have a direct airflow path to the filter, it is important that we also allow for water to be drained before reaching the filter. In order to protect against excess water ingress, we have designed several features into the intake components as follows.

Think its quite self explaining that it is my car :popcorn: if you follow on FB - it also delivers additional air to the brakes, which is important as the original brake ventilation especially for short tracks is not sufficient , if you use the brakes hard. - it keeps the hood aerodynamical smoother and produce lower drag - The original airbox is state of the art, the additional port itself supplies enough fresh air to make the snorkels obsolete - the flow is better - it costs a fraction compared to the Eventuri - it keeps for 3rd party inspections the original look, none oh these fresh air devices are on german roads legal, and your find yourself awarded with a fine and rebuild The original airbox layout with changed port makes the use of a sub cool element possible which i will not show :) |
