As I was checking my oil today I noticed the filter slightly cocked on my Alta intake. Upon further inspection I realized that the clamp had split the rubber on the neck of the filter. When I installed it in Dec 03 I was careful not to over tighten and the same thing last moth when I had it off to install my pulley. Has anyone else had this happen? Does anyone know of a paper filter element that will fit the Alta intake box? Looks like about 2 3/4" wide. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Craig

Craig, I believe it is 2-1/2" ID. I have researched a number on a K&N that should fit well. Not sure if that is what you are after, the K&N is a gauze filter. As soon as I receive my filter and fit it, I can post the results.
I hope that helps

Andy's set up looks real nice as well and this is a K&N also. When my set up is complete I will hope to have reinstalled the partition (quieter) but still pull air in from the front of the filter and cowl area.

Andy & Fletch,
Thanks so much, I really appreciate all the input. Andy I just ordered that RU-1520 I'm sure it'll work great, should be here by Wed next wk. Is there anything I need to do to that filter before installing it. ie: oiling it or anything else.
Thanks again, you guys are life savers. Hope I can return the favor someday!!
Craig

I'm pretty sure that K&N filters are ready to go out-of-the-box. Check with K&N, but I think the oil is only needed for cleaning.

I had one put on at the Dragon this year, and that's exactly what happened to it that very day.

check with baldwin filters. they may have a true paper element that will fit as an alternative to the oiled cotton K&N already mentioned (which i don't care for).

If your filters base had ripped we will replace it! No matter what this isn't a normal thing that occures so don't just brush it off and buy another filter. Plus our foam filters are far superior to the K&N in cleaning and flow when dirty. Please call us and we will get one out to you right away!

I had the same thing happen to my Ata CAI. I called ALTA and they sent me a new filter, I had to send my old one in and as soon as they get the old one they will issue me a refund for the new one they sent- pretty decent service.

I was lucky it happened right away. Waylen pulled a filter out of another kit. Bad luck for Waylen though, one less kit he could install.

The replacement had a couple little bubbles in the plastic at the edge, but nothing structural that I could see. It's "still ticking" but I check it FREQUENTLY now.

So I might win an award for resurrecting a 13 year old thread, but does anybody have any input on swapping the k&n filter onto the Alta intake like this? I like the look of this k&n and my foam filter is about done.
