The 2nd Gen Sprintex Owners Thread

Due to the original thread being 99% about the old unit and it's issues, I think it's time for a separate thread for the newer 2nd Gen units.

How to to determine if you have a second generation Sprintex?

The fill plug located closest to the belt will actually be a dipstick instead of just a plug.

Known issues carried over from the 1st generation kits: (Send PM if you have others)

Issue:
1. Faulty Tensioner / Fix = Bytetronik / GPR Tensioner
2. Light oil consumption / Fix = Bytetronik Vented plug

Known Belt Combinations: (Send PM if you have others)

ATI 2% / Stock Pulley (15-16psi) / GPR Tensioner = Continental 6PK1388
ATI 2% / 64mm Pulley (17-18psi) / GPR Tensioner = Gates K060539
ATI 2% / 60mm Pulley (19-20psi) / GPR Tensioner = Unknown

Pulley Options:
64mm and 60mm Pulleys available from KAVS Motorsports Here

Oil Change Capacity: 111mL of 75w90 Gear Oil

Are there any known issues with the gpr tensioner?

downshift1 05-22-2018 09:20 AM

I've had mine on for a while now and the only issue I have is the stock dampener bushings which I'm replacing with Powerflex ones.

It has a few nice features, you can still use your factory tensioner tool, and it has a built in stop should you have a belt fail.

CSP 05-22-2018 09:31 AM

What's the problem with the bushings? Just worn out?

downshift1 05-22-2018 12:47 PM

The factory rubber bushings in the shock deteriorate quickly under hard use.

The powerflex have a lifetime warranty on them so it was the logical choice.

interdasting. Any vendors care to weigh in on this? The $300 upgraded tensioner still needs aftermarket parts?

The tensioner still uses your existing OEM damper/shock, and is not included, the choice of upgrading the bushings is no different than with the stock mini setup, it's not a "must do" item unless you think it should be done.

Like BlwnAway said, this is not a fault of the tensioner but of the OEM part that you transfer over to it.

Installation

If you have an R53 that has never had its harmonic balancer changed you will not be able to install the GPR tensioner, its too tight, lifted lowered the engine, impossible especially with the damper installed on the GPR, I've installed countless of oem belt tensioners on the R53s without removing the engine mount but the damper wasnt on untill tensioners were in place, GPR is a touch bigger and its bearing part that connects to the supercharger is a one piece, getting it past the sprintex pulley impossible, instructions are for earlier version. I will be taking the never changed harmonic balancer off and it will be ok, just a pain in the butt for us with the never changed harmonic balancers...good luck, unit looks amazing cant wait to have it all done in a couple of days...2002 R53 version 2 Sprintex...

Installation completed

GPR tensioner successfully installed by removing oem still from factory harmonic balancer, the thick one, then replaced...i did have a rattle i thought from the oem tensioner that came with the Sprintex, but its another issue...did have oil light on so could be my oil pump...but anyways tensioner looks amazing car at idle sounds great, just while I push on the gas it starts rattling..,may even have loose chain...thanks bytetronik recommend the GPR performance tensioner

Timing chain tensioner has been removed by taking the valve cover off and with a long screwdriver with care was pried out...ordered new one be here on Tuesday 7th Jan...then we really get to test out the GPR performance tensioner.....have the vented plug in place instead of the dipstick, gear oil 111mm is replaced and a new belt....GTi I'm looking for you hahaha
