How much HP does this typically add?

depends on how much boost you put to it
the more you put to it, the more it will make over the stock one

cerenkov 04-04-2018 08:37 AM

For the N18?

Let's say you put the same boost into it as the stock. How much additional hp should you expect to see?

20+ depending upon what your tuner does

Do you have cams that are matched to your head?

Beautiful looking work, really well done.

Have fun,
Mike

any good cam grinder can use the flow data above to make some fantastic cams for the head.

Do you have any recommendations for cam manufacturers who can actually do custom cams for the N14? I've only found companies that have their own grinds.

at this time I don't have a cam manufacturer to give a rec to. Newman who grinds all of our cams for the 1st gen cars was working on getting blanks for these but at the current time I believe they don't have anything. I'll check tomorrow.

Love IT!! Show me more!!

Q - any chance of port matching big plenum R53 intake mani to this head? I want to ditch the OEM plastic manifold and the R53 mani looks like the (almost) perfect way to add port injection at the same time. There are few/no options available for this route on R56 without fab it looks like though.. which is why i ask.

That's almost too good looking to put in a car!

anything is possible, it's only money
I'm shocked more people haven't built something for the 2nd gen already. Me, personally I won't do anything for the car until there is a proper solution for the tuning. I constantly get people coming to me asking for a stand alone because their cars don't run right with the bigger turbo setups of what's offered out there. By the number of them that come for engine rebuilds I would have to agree

Does this mean the days of piston #3 failures are coming to an end? I see rmw has pistons/rods now. I've held off on building a R56 due to the tuning/failure issues. SCCA classes them so much better for autocross & TT, and the platform is faster on the track.

I keep resisting switching but maybe there's less reason not to?

there is some really bad tuning going on out there. The amount of blown engines in the 2nd gen is extreme
obviously good rods/pistons will make a difference. I'm the only one out there to address the oil consumption issue by designing a proper ring package for the pistons. I have custom rings made by Mahle Motorsports division.
