Tried Parallels next, no joy.
Gave up and installed Boot Camp Windows 10, no joy.
Wtf?
Googled the USB device hardware name (Xdevice KCAN). Found instructions on how to tell Windows what device driver to use. Smacked forehead. Told Windows to use the driver included with the Bytetronik software.
Now it sees the USB dongle!
Rebooted to MacOS, fired up VMware Fusion again, pointed Windows at the driver inside my VM, and now it sees the USB dongle too
So now I just have to run out to the car and hook it up, but I think my problem is solved. Install the driver after you install the Bytetronik software. It’s in the program files (x86) folder.
As a great movie character once said, “I am not a smart man.”

I know right?
Wife wants to do MTTS-18 and is threatening that we'll have to take her 2016 MCS as per mine.
Now that I have had the ECU on mine massaged by the guys at Bytetronik, it's no longer as much fun to take hers out and about. Sure as hell not on a journey like MTTS.
I'll blame it on Mike - this upgrade really spoils one when you get back into a stock form car for sure.

So remember, all you dyno junkies, it's all about power to the wheels -- usable power.
If the rumors turn out to be true about a factory 300hp Clubman All4 JCW, that would be a car I'd like to take around a few corners...
My point is, aside from smoking wheels because you can, there comes a point where high torque and HP numbers are just... numbers.
It appears the smart people in ECU tuningworld have this well dialed.
Me, I'm just happily popping and burbling along in Sport Mode with my wimpy Dinan Sport tuner and paddle shifters and watching my side mirrors fold and unfold, for now. However.... next MINI.

After the DP was added today to complement the ByteTronik Tune, I gots numbers! Don't know what they are, but I got 'em. Pegged the needles on the butt dyno on the way home.

Butt dyno data is the best data. And it's easy to interpret without one of them high-falutin' engineeeering degrees. Also, who ya gonna believe? That fake dyno data or those lovely lyin' eyes in your hiney??

Dyno graph comparisons (same car, same dyno).
Got quite a few requests from customers who are interested in a "JCW-like" tune... so here is a comparison of the power levels between 3 maps:
Stock JCW: 180 WHP ; 201 WTQ
JCW+ Map: 213 WHP ; 235 WTQ
BT Stage-1: 235 WHP (284 BHP); 289 WTQ (350 ETQ = Engine Torque)
(Gains over stock: +55WHP | +88WTQ)
Did some more tweaking on the dyno (and doing DataLogging beta testing on the MINI F-series)
- Solid line = Factory JCW Tune
- Second dotted line = Bytetronik's JCW+ tune
- Third line (scatter line) = Bytronik Stage-1 Flash
Stock JCW: 180 WHP ; 201 WTQ
JCW+ Map: 213 WHP ; 235 WTQ
BT Stage-1: 235 WHP (284 BHP); 289 WTQ (350 ETQ = Engine Torque)

mmm interesting yeah i asked about this a while ago because once i added the sports cat (miltek) my car became a bit more loud on startup but during cold start i didn't love the sound until the warm up cycle was complete.
When I contacted BT about this they asked did I remove the cat and i told them no i just replaced it with a sports cat and thats when i was informed that you would code that feature when removing the cat (because you no longer have cats that need to be warmed up).
o well ive just learned to live with it since then....
