Unichip and the dealer

Yesterday I took the Mini in to Global Imports (Atlanta) and among the things they did they told me that they did the "recall" change to the software. I did not request it so I did not turn off the Unichip. I asked if they realized the chip was on and they told me that it had no effect on what the unichip was doing. I said that I doubted that and went downstairs to the shop and spoke with the mechanic who assure me etc. When i picked up the car the performance had gone to crap. I could tell just reving in neutral but I drove down the black to confirm. I went straight back (a bit upset) and asked them to reprogram after I turned off the chip. They did and I turned the chip back on and everything appears back to normal. Lesson learned....turn off the chip whenever the car is left at the dealer. In all fairness Eric and Thomas are great guys and very good at their jobs. They take care of me. They just didn't know....now they do.

what? You have a switch to turn on/off the Unichip?

On mine, the only way to turn it 'off' was to take it off the car....

I'm confused also, as there is no "on/off" switch on the UNIchip.

I just spoke with UNICHIP and got clarification " pay no attention to that man behind the screen" I had it all wrong. My apologies.

...so what changed during your dealership visit that made the car run from "crap" to "good"?
