Megan Short throw shifter won't fit?

I have a Mini Cooper S 2003. The Short throw shifter was made in September 2003 and up and found out my Cooper was made in January. Is it possible to switch out the shift assembly and use a 2004-2006 shift box?

I think you'll need the shifter lug assembly and shift cables for the opposite type (A vs B)... My research indicates that you'll be money ahead to sell the incorrect shifter you do have and buy one that's correct, as I think the shifter assembly runs ~$250 without cables.

Ahhh Darn, I couldn't find any Short throw shifters for a 03. If the stick was threaded, I would've just put a weighted knob and call it a day

What about this?

You could do that.... or:

B&M clone SSK
460g Shift knob

I ended up wanting a little more stiffness & throw reduction (everyone else who messed w/ it liked the SSK throw), so I bought a second one, a 1/2" thread coupler and some m4 hex bolts and built a bottom mount SSK like the Helix as well. If you bought a helix kit (~$55 shipped), your total cost would be (approximated)

Ebay SSK: $28
Ebay knob: $16
Helix SSK: $55
=========
Total cost: $95

And you can get by as little as ~$44 if you don't try to get the throws as short as possible (BTW, my add on only reduced throws by an additional 1/2-3/4". It did stiffen the works up considerably, which would not be considered a plus by all).

Obviously, you can replace the entire assembly and cables if you like, but I personally would not.

So if I were to do this swap, would it be straight plug and play?

Changing out the assembly I mean

Someone else will have to chime in on that. I think I recall reading that the differing condition shifter assembly (A & B) each required different shift cables too, but I won't swear to that.

$60 w/ cables is a really good price. Nice find!

Thank you! Praying that the shifter fits and the shifter assembly is plug and play
