My F56 Build
Hi guys, I have partnered with a shop to develop some custom parts for my car. Check out my build!
1) Custom Air Intake System
2) Full Turboback Exhaust System
Air Intake System is a full 3 inch pipe, removing the factory resonator. No pipe bends reducing diameter, but welded corner pieces to ensure a full 3 inch diameter all the way through. The intake is then wrapped with gold to reflect heat from going into the system. Custom box is also created with an open system, utilizing the factory air ducts to feed the intake.
Full Turboback Exhaust System ensures maximum flow. The factory downpipe has a crazy L bend that is horrible for flow along with other bends in the factory exhaust system. The bends are reflected on the dyno with the shaky graph during the higher RPM's. With the turboback exhaust, the curves flatten out for more consistent power delivery. The Turboback exhaust replaces the factory downpipe and rest of the exhaust. It is 4 inches from the turbo and tapers to 3 inches. Bends are minimized for the most consistent exhaust flow. Currently, I run 2 resonators and no muffler for optimal performance while eliminating drone.
Full Air Intake System
4 inch to 3 inch downpipe from the turbo.
Downpipe connection
Midpipe with Resonator
Factory Downpipe. Horrible turn in the exhaust system. Very restrictive.

The kit provides an increase of 17.19whp and 23.5wtq
BEFORE BUILD:
My MINI only had an NM Engineering Intake and Muffler Delete.
202.61whp and 270.75wtq
AFTER BUILD:
FULL AIR INTAKE SYSTEM AND FULL TURBOBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM
219.80whp and 294.25wtq
As you can see in the dyno chart. The top end power is much more flat compared to the wavy previously.
Both Runs. Stock Map. No Tuning.

Idle is surprisingly dead stable, and not rough like how other cars will be if you throw Mods at it.
Intake sounds amazing. Induction sound during throttle and the blow off when letting off. I would have to take a video but videos don't do justice with the exhaust and Intake sounds unfortunately.

The power gains are real!!
The MINI did well against the mighty Focus RS that also has some basic Mods.
MINI Cooper S (non-JCW) Stock: 189hp 207tq (221tq w/ overboost)
Added Mods:
Custom 3in Intake
Custom 3in Full TurboBack Exhaust
Factory Map
Focus RS Stock: 350hp 350tq
Added Mods:
Muffler delete
Colder Spark Plugs
Panel Filter
COBB OTS Map
What are your thoughts? Very happy with this kit. I thought I would get destroyed by the RS.

Great! Glad you like it. I especially like how we didn't lose diameter by bending the pipe. A lot more welds at time to do the bends but it was worth it.
You didn't end up getting the Barber Design?
I'm not sure the cost yet but I'm sure this Intake won't be cheap.
My basic NM-Eng Intake was $329.95.

I see you had to cut off most of the heatshield that goes around the downpipe right off the turbo. I guess that is one downside to running a 3" downpipe - you lose both the bottom and top of that heatshield.
That new intake has got to get HOT without the heatshield blocking the extreme heat from the downpipe. Must be why you have the gold tape on it, but how much good does that tape really do.

My original plan was to use Titanium for the Intake but it was out of my build budget, so I resorted to aluminum and gold wrapped the bottom half to reflect the heat. I wish I had some sort of before and after heat logging but it was all 1 build.

Exhaust is awesome! Nice and loud when I floor it.
When just cruising and on the freeway it is quiet. Exactly what I wanted. No drone. Only loud when I want it loud thanks to the 2 resonators.
Im testing the Motorsport lobster tail design. Really an eye turner and very different.
Anything can can be built, u can keep the dual design also!

I believe the heat shield wasn't put on for ease of installation. I know it has like 12 tedious bolts on it. I am not sure.

Besides that everything looks good, great craftsmanship! I think 3" is too big for our tiny turbo but to each their own.
