Just got the manic tune, what's next?
I have a bone stock 2010 N14 R57. I got the manic stage 1 last night, super happy with it. So now I'm thinking about what's next. Should I get rid of the second cat,get a new intake or start saving for an intercooler?
|
Second cat and intercooler. If anything, intercooler to start with.
|
But is it true that if u add any mod to your tuned car, u need to send the car back to remap it, so that the remap can take advantage of ur mods?
|
downpipe, intercooler. Is the most important.
Then you can do a Stage 2 tune |
Doesn't a stage 2 require a CAI too? And $50 more for the tune?

that's what I heard from my local manic mini dealer, he said having your mini tune should be your very last thing to do
|
Maybe drive it for more than a day before lusting for more? Is that even possible with you Manic tuned folks?

then get a tune once all three are done. |
I guess it's no big thing, I'll just go with an intercooler and a downpipe. Because my tune would now be obsolete I'll be forced to get the stage 2.
Is that how it works, or would I need to have the stage 1 done over, then a 2? |

You don't need to do any tuning done unless you choose to. Tuning is just to get the most power out of your mods. I had an intake, exhaust, downpipe, and intercooler done with absolutely no tuning. Drove on it for about a year until I got a stage 2 tune. No need to update your tune unless you want to squeeze the most power out. I am on stage 3 and I occasionally run my stock map for kicks. Doesn't hurt the car at all.
What would be better, downpipe and keep the second cat or get rid of the cat and skip the downpipe. I'd love to do them both but the noise is a BIG concern. |

I like the downpipe and IC being my next mods. Problem is I'm scared of the downpipe. I have no wish for a loud car. I was thinking I'd get rid of the second cat and that would be about as much noise as I could handle, that and I could get it done without spending too much.

You can do a high flow catted downpipe and delete the second cat.
Also, how much power am I giving away going this route? |
I think CNT has a catless downpipe with a resonator on it. I've never tried it though.

Can anyone recommend a catted downpipe that won't brake the bank.

Any reason why you don't just want a downpipe? A non-catted downpipe would be better than a catted downpipe, turbos don't like any type of restriction which adds to the heat collected at the turbo/downpipe. Get that heat away from the turbo/engine, cats cause heat soak that heats up you turbo/engine! Here's what you ask about, Evolve Sport Cat is a 200 Cel ($687), gives better flow than the stock 400 Cel cat. Don't know about the increase in HP and torque but I will tell you you'll get quicker spool. Keep you resonator though and delete your second cat.
For JMC1: I've tried both. I really wanted to like the non-catted dp but it was much too loud for me. I was hesitant to go wide open throttle because of the noise. So I installed the 100 cel dp from Akrapovic (you can find used ones on the Marketplace). The noise is still louder than stock but FWIW I did have a 70 year old co-worker who drives a Nissan Leaf tell me that my car sounds fantastic when he was driving behind me one day. I've actually never heard my car from the outside. |

I’ve heard I may have trouble passing emissions test going with a catted DP and second cat delete.
Thoughts? So if you decide to go with any higher flow cat. be aware of that. You can swap the cats out for testing and back again after, but most people don't want that hassel. Me, I wouldn't care, I can swap them out pretty quick now as I've done it 3 times now. (in, out, in). |

I need to think about what I want to do about a DP.. |

The second cat is not needed for sniffer tests in mosts states. It is there to help with fleet emissions. Depending on the state, some people here have passed a sniffer test with a high flow cat DP. A tune can bypass around the OBD2 port tests.
As report by fellow members the Manic tune will pass the OBD2 portion in Texas for people running a catless DP, do they do a sniffer test there? Before you do buy anything, verify with a fellow member in your state. |
you can do the first stage tune with just intake and exhaust, stage 2 you need the DP, here in AZ we don't have any issue with smog, stage 2+ you need the FMIC and stage 3 you need bigger turbo and then water meth.
